I'm sure I will hear about it at the office tomorrow. This is a game only SMU or UAB fans can find entertaining. I don't understand all the Craig James bashing. This broadcast is consistent with the other weekday games I've watched featuring mediocre teams from non-BCS conferences. This was a good opportunity for SMU but so far we are making a poor showing both in the stands and on the field

UAB never once challenged SMU Deep which is incredible-which plays right into SMU's strength the SMU defensive line and especially Muse, Haywood and Rodgers. SMU seemed to retreat into a conservative offensive gameplan again. Willis had Colombus Givens all by his lonesome in the First Quater but underthrew him by about 10 yards that was intercepted. Maybe the cold gave him trouble with his grip but he was throwing mostly underneath stuff like against NTSU. Great accuracy but only about 7-8 yards a catch. Tony Hawkins probably played his best game as a Mustang. Haywood is easily the best DLM at SMU in the last 20 years. Probably our only dominating defensive player in the last 20 years-hmm maybe Bordano. But seriously I'd be surprised if the Coaches don't vote Haywood CUSA Defensive Player of the Year. I haven't seen a dominating DLM like Haywood in CUSA. On the second half scoring drive UAB had about 10 straight plays over Bonds position and marched down the field. McCann didn't get beat deep so his debut was a success but again he wasn't really tested. Phil Bennett made an absolutely great call by Punting the ball at midfield late in the game. It so tempting to go for it but SMU doesn't and didn't tonite have the offensive line to jam it down anybody's throat. Oh yea Regge Carringtom made at least 3 great plays. One of the best is when he made a great drop deep into the secondary to knockdown a 3rd down pass. Carrington is really coming on and so is Hawkins. SMU will get beat in all 3 of their next games if they play like they did tonite. 260 yards Total Offense-I'm sure we are heading to below 300 yards Total Offense on the season against the easiest schedule in the Nation for teams above the Mid America Sun Belt Line.

I actually think Stallion hit it right on the head on most of the stuff. Should mention though that a couple of plays UAB did look deep but Haywood or Rogers was already hassling the QB into throwing the ball out of bounds. CJ said the same thing about half way through the fourth about UAB having some people open but the QB not having the time to get it to them.

UAB did try to go deep. One was completed before the FG to end the first half. The second was late in the 4th quarter when Lindley was tested and pinned their WR to the sideline. Lindley got shaken up on the play.

I would submit that we will open it up a little more against UH and Tulsa. We're going to have to.
