Note to the Band

Postby RE Tycoon » Wed Nov 01, 2006 5:06 am

...When on national TV, try standing as close as possible to each other. When they do a close up, it looks like we have six band people. Same with basketball, you people spread out WAY too much. Act like a real University and pack it in!

I noticed ESPN showed the band for all of aboout 3 seconds. I'm sure that's why. The way they spread out in the stands, it always looks like 2/3 of the band is in the bathroom or something.

Yes.. it's very weird to see a large hole in the middle of the band. Were we trying to look bigger or something?

Was anyone else perturbed by the wear whatever uniform you want bit, or am I just being old and crotchety? I was also bothered by the drill team member wearing the U of Minnesota Hockey jersey. If you are going to dress up as an athlete for an SMU game...DRESS UP LIKE AN SMU ATHLETE IN AN SMU UNIFORM!!!

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

As long as it's a one time thing for Halloween, it's ok. Although more of them should have been in candy stripes. Or spats and beanies...

I do remember a few years ago, the band was asked to take up the whole section, to 'appear' bigger. But yes, when the cameras zoomed in, it looks strange to see so much space in between everyone.

I thought it looked slightly off and I think there could have been a better idea for "Halloween costumes". I had a friend from work (a Notre Dame fan) who asked me if our band was like the Stanford band or the MOB. Slightly discouraging.

I wondered that myself last night. That giant hole usually isn't in the middle like that. The direct line of sight between me and the front (i.e. directors) got me in trouble once or twice
