Bowling and Game Notes

I had a couple of things on my mind after thinking about the game last night. I just don't see SMU winning 7 this year. Houston and Tulsa are tough....and the way they pass. It's hard to imagine a win there. Rice will be a tough one too. They like to throw the ball down field as well. My prediction is 6-6. Hope it is enough for a bowl this year but I don't think it will be. Sorry I'm a downer.

Sat in the box last night eating Magiano's sipping some cold beers. That is a pretty nice set up they have in the boxes.

I have watched UH extensively this season being that I now live and Houston and we ARE capable of beating them for two reasons.

1. Their defense is awful. Think of our defense (including secondary that gets burnt often) but with a below average D-Line. They don't stop the run and they give up big pass plays. I would be shocked if we dont score 30+ pts against them.

2. They are most succesfull when they get their running game going. Our D will shut down UH's running game which really stalls their offense. Look at the rushing totals allowed vs gained in their losses this season and I think they will show just how important their ground game is to them.

If we play like we did against UAB, ya UH will run us right out of Ford, but I do think we have a good chance if we shut down their running game and limit stupid turnovers on offense like we had this week.

The timing of the Houston game helps SMU. The Mustangs get extra time to rest and prepare. Houston faces Tulsa and will possibly come out high against the Hurricane and hopefully flat for SMU the following week. It's also Homecoming so the crowd should be bigger than normal. It's a great opportunity for the ponies and as my grandmother always said "Every school ought to win it's homecoming game."

One concern...we had extra time to rest and prepare for UAB and I thought we looked a little weak...maybe team will "get up" for this one?? BEAT the COOGS!

If U-LA-LA can beat Cougar High, so can we.

I will never forgive them for 95-21.

Yeah we can't play that game. UAB beat East Carolina and we got stomped by them.

And Arkansas State stomped UNT, but we lost to the Mean Green. This is why they "Play the Games".

I got the feeling the team started tense and tentative. Not due to extra time but rather the pressure of bowl elimination and national TV. And this is really referring to the offense as the defense I thought played well and hit hard, making the tackles that were missed vs. ECU.

A lot of goofy fumbles and special teams mistakes gave UAB good field position most of the game.

you are supposed to win your homecoming game. That's one of the reasons I like to attend whenever I can. Looking forward to a good game with Houston. Last time I remember playing them on homecoming was a wonderful redemption win, I believe something like 35-16, for a group of seniors who had been humiliated 95-21 as frosh by Andre Ware and Jack Pardee

It seems that Demyron being back in the mix made the coaches not want to call passes. Martin is good and all, but lets not fix somethin' that ain't broke.

CP...saw something today that would have us ranked #18 in the NCAA D-1 2A poll....with NCAA attendence rules soon to kick in, one has tro ask themselves..........with all due respect, we did not look real D1ish last night.

Exactly. DM: Stud, not Savior.
