Why don't we have a Jumbo Package?

honestly it was second down and 3 from the 3 freaking yard line and we only scored b/c willis is agile and he found chase in the end zone.. but on 2nd down we ran the pistol formation (which i love) but not on the freaking goalline.. Then the 3rd down and an inch.. We could not get half a yard.. Are you kidding me.. Put in McKinney, spearman, kennedy and chase.. Spearman, kennedy and chase at TE and Mckinney at FB and martin at tailback..

If we can't get 1 yd w/ that package then that is ridiculous..

I just can't believe we line up in the shotgun and pistol inside the 5 yardline.. Boggles my mind

There is nothing wrong using a fullback. Robert Newhouse. That sort of thing. When you are in short-yardage situations, your team's physicalness is tested. You can't finesse your way into first downs. You need brute strength.

Flutie didn't like it either. But as CJ pointed out, the pistol "spreads the field."

Like the Cowboys spread out on the goal line Sunday night? It was second down, not third or fourth. I have my problems with the playcalling, too. But I am not going to quibble with plays where we scored a touchdown.

I don't understand how the pistol spreads the field. The only spreading it does is spreading the RB farther away from the line of scrimmage.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that when a lot of those situations come up during the course of the season, you need a play to punch them in the mouth. 3rd and short and 4th and short, regardless of where you are on the field and of course the goal line situations.

Has no one noticed this formation allows for a designed bootleg that we score on about 90% of the time.. ? V. Chase was not the primary reciever on the play because UAB snuffed it out.. so kudos to Willis for avoiding the pressure and sticking it in there. That was a big time play at a crucial time (3rd and goal too).

You're totally right. We need one. I have said it before and I'll say it again...we cannot run out of the pistol! It takes too long to develop. On 3rd and short, run it up the gut.
