Comments to ESPN's broadcast

Here is my comment to ESPN which was submitted earlier today. Feel free to post your own.

-------------------------
I realize SMU/UAB isn't Ohio State/Michigan, but the unprofessional, funnyman, punch drunk style in which James/Flutie/Saunders approached the game last night was regrettable for a fan of either team. As an SMU alum, we've long been awaiting a chance to see our team play on ESPN only to wind up having the experience marred by 3 commentators obviously not interested in working the game. Next time, please employ announcers trying to refine their craft versus making a mockery of it.

Maybe we should start a thread here - because it is obviously one of the most important things in sports right now as I was made aware last night.

If a team from the Big East goes undefeated, should they receive an automatic bid to the BCS title game??

I particularly enjoyed the "oh and while we having talking about this, UAB has mounted a nice little drive" comment before they returned to the Big East promotion

That's how every Tuesday night broadcast is.. what's your problem guys? I enjoyed the jovial nature of the crew, especially Flutie. There could have been more actual commentating (and less butchering of SMU players' names.. Haygood, Hayward.. its Haywood!!).. but that's my only complaint.

Agreed, I was hoping to hear some insight and some kind of intellect with these anouncers. Give me a break there having a conversation about some random topic while there is no commentary on the three plays that just went by.

Honestly.. did the three plays that went by need any commentary? The game was a drag and I thought they did a good job of livening things up!

While I didn't like the constant interruptions and joking during the game, I can understand it. The only way to get people to respect your college football team is to win, and we haven't been doing too much of that lately.

We haven't!!!!!!!! Hmmmmm. Seems to me we have been winning more lately than we have in a long time.

I loved the post game interview with PB where he forced the fact that we have won 8 of our last 12 into the conversation.

too many of you have lost your sense of humor. It was an entertaining broadcast. After all, this wasn't an elmination game in the BCS Championship hunt

CP, most people on this board never had one to begin with, and that's no way to live life as a Mustang fan.

If I had to watch that robot shooting those hippies one more time I would have kicked in my TV screen. Other than that and the shameless, constant promotion (which is to be expected) I had no problem with the broadcast. I do not think an interesting game would have made a difference. They started the bantering with the kickoff and never let up.

I guess Tuesday night football is basically a sports talk show with a football game in the background. Kinda like a sports bar.

Add to the fact that the game was so slow at the beginning that these teams only had chances, distant chances to affect CUSA championship and that it was CUSA and not BCS, it is no wonder they acted as they did. After all it was a national audience and they had to try to entertain and be relevant to that audience.

Regardless the broadcast was annoying and I agree with the comment on that commercial.

I recorded the 2 am-4 am version -- so a lot of the stuff was cut out. But from what I watched, I really didn't have a problem with what was said.

If you're ESPN and you have a huge game between Louisville-West Virginia coming up, I'd sell the hell out of it too. It's all about sales.

I thought the trio did fine, although Saunders isn't the best play-by-play guy. His biggest mess up was on our first play when he called Columbus Givens, Kellis Cunningham. When Flutie admits he doesn't know the rule, that's not good.

I actually thought it was kind of funny when Todd Harris was gigging Craig James on the 1980 Holiday Bowl. We had four defenders around #85 for the Cougars, and he catches the damn thing.

They didn't show the drop kick segment but the story about Rogers dropping the gator in the shower was funny. (I didn't read the DMN story on him last week).

Overall, it was fine. Bottom line we were on national TV and Bennett said we want you coming back.
