November 11th will be my first SMU game

Postby choedebeck » Wed Nov 01, 2006 5:14 pm

I have been watching the pony's this year and come November 11th, I am going to make it out to my first SMU game. Any suggestions on making the experience more enjoyable?

Yea I have an idea....BRING EVERYONE YOU CAN. The more fans the merrier, because if we tie for a bowl spot, the bowl people will look at attendence. The Athletic Deparmtent has 10 days to pull this one together and get fans in the stands.

Sheesh, I make one Mark Foley joke....

Heh...

Just wondering what his point of reference is before laying out my opinions as to what he can do to improve his experience.

No, high school was awhile ago. I am from dallas and started getting my masters at SMU a year ago. Since then I have moved to Austin, and am still attending SMU through the distance program. I went to UTD for my undergrad, and while it is easy to root for the Longhorns here in Austin, I would much rather cheer for a school I am a part of.

I will see if I can't talk some of my family members in Dallas into going to the game with me.

If you do not know this already, park at the DART transfer lot off of Mockingbird just east of Central and shuttle over to the stadium. As an out of towner who attends the games I am very appreciative of the simplicity (and free no less) of getting to the campus. I am not sure this is marketed enough. I am sure there are people in Dallas that think about going to a game and then figure the parking would be so difficult and costly that it is not worth the effort. Free convenient parking and always discount tickets should be easily marketable in Dallas. A family of 4 can go to a Division 1 football game for less than the cost of going to a movie and even at outrageous prices, the concessions are less costly too.

First step would be coming by my tent and having a Jello shot or two. Then get your cowbell and head down to the greek tents.

Here's a question, since I never did that--do you have to show them a game ticket to get on the shuttle?

I will be bringing my father-in-law. He was a big SMU fan in the 60's and 70's, but after the DP he started watching Longhorn games. Here is hoping getting him at an SMU game after 20 some odd years will bring his interest in the team back.

No. And it does not have to fill up before they take you. I have been the only one on it on the way to the stadium. They just keep a watch for potential riders and send them out on a regular basis. I have on occasions met people gettng on them when I have been dropped off and asked them why they were leaving and they say they forgot something in the car. You can go back and forth as often as necessary. It is a very good method. The return trip is just as easy and when we win you can laugh at the opposing fans who are on the bus. If we lose you can roll them and have money for the evening. (That's a joke for the humor deprived on this board)
