The clock late in the game

Forgive the ignorance, but can anyone explain this?

On UAB's possession late in the fourth, when we sacked Williams at the Blazer 10, the clock stopped at 2:40. There was some confusion regarding and incomplete pass, fumble or whatnot.

Regardless, when it was determined it was a sack, why didn't the clock keep moving elapsing? The official didn't wind his arm. Since there was no incompletion, the clock should not have stopped.

I don't know the clock rule on a sack. I know in the NFL, it stops momentarily.

Please offer some insight.

I was under the impression that they ruled it a fumble which went out of bounds. I couldn't tell if where it rolled out was much different from where the qb was tackled.

The umpire crew wasn't very clear on several rulings which frustrated my friend & me to no end.

I went back and watched that one spot we continued to scream at to roll the clock last night..

And it seemed like their QB got rid of the ball before we sacked it but not really a throw to anyone or anything. I guess they ruled it a fumbled that rolled out of bounds? Looks like he tossed it towards the sidelines though.

That's the only thing I could think of that would've stopped the clock.

It was a sack and a fumble out of bounds.

I just checked the drive chart from the game. It mentions only the 15-yard sack. No mention of a fumble, incomplete pass or anything. The next thing in there was UAB's substitution foul infraction.

Although it worked out for us, that could have been really messy had they scored.

Yeah, but he wasn't 15 yards behind the LOS when he went down. They ruled it a fumble.

Blog,
I think you said you weren't going to be able to go to the game. Is that what Saunders, James and Flutie said on the broadcast?

DMN listed 2 fumbles by SMU. There were at least three, right?

The three I'm thinking for SMU were:

1.Willis lost fumble.
2. Warren's on the PR that sledge recovered
3. Sanders had one on KOR that he recovered

The two that didn't count
1. Sanders on that WR screen that was ruled incomplete
2. Warren on the PR (same series as the first) when he got lit up and the offsetting penalties nullified the play.

But the Williams one for UAB was confusing because the crew was not definite in its call.

they were definite in spotting the ball where it went out of bounce. It was a backwards pass=fumble.

Trick or treated with the kids with the radio in my ear. Was home before 1st half ended. Turned on TV saw pass to V. Chase. Pajamas on Kid 1; pajamas on Kid 2. Looked at wife; said, "Welp, see ya later!" Got in car, turned on radio, called BrianTinBigD's brother and told him I was on my way. Walked into Ford stadium as UAB missed the field goal.

With me at game: 5-0; without me: 0-4.

BTW, SMU gave BrianTinBigD a win over UAB for his birthday. His sorry brother bailed on the party to join me at the game. Of course, I think BrianT is sorry for being born on the day of a future SMU game. You shouldn't have kids during football season.

My oldest daughter was born the night the Stars won the Stanley Cup.

We could have used you at the North Texas game.

No doubt. My friend, who is more cynical about the mustangs than I, reminded me today that we are already bowl eligible at 6-3 but for the egg laid in Denton.
