Today between 5 and 6pm on SMU radio kpni, Joe Sturdivant will be interviewed on The Game, the radio show put on by myself and SMUltimedia. Tune in by going to Smu.edu and searching kpni. There's another way to do it but I can never remember it. Feel free to call in to the show with questions or comments at any time.

are you going to podcast these shows? I used to do a show with pony pride and unfortunately my weekly show w/ Jerry Bennett has deceased due the beginning of the season w/ back to back losses and mainly because SMU will not allow an alumni w/ tons of radio experience to use their studio when the students are not using it..
shoot me a personal message, be interested to talk to you about the show

I'm kind of a noob, how do I send a personal reply?
All we can do is broadcast it on a derivative of the SMU website, even though they (those in charge) are more than capable of doing more. It seems their logic in letting people use their resources is, if nothing else, consistent.

When you read a post to which you want a personal reply, look at the bottom of the post in question and click on the "PM" (private message) button. You'll get a a window that pops up with the recipent's name at the top, and you have to type in a subject (like in an e-mail) and another, bigger window for the text of your message.

Apparently, Joe Sturdivant had to go save the world! He cancelled out about 2 minutes before the show went on the air. The show's hosts will be talking about the UofH game around 5:45 p.m.
FYI: The call-in number is 214-768-5764.

I bet Chuck Norris was causing problems somewhere and the Joe phone rang and he had to go smack down Chuck.

Thanks for listening, and trying to listen, to the show and the interview.
Joe called me to cancel a few minutes before showtime because he had to get his team ready to compete in a sorority's Mr. Universe competition tonight.
We're going to try to reschedule, or pre-tape an interview soon.
Steve Orsini is "soft booked" for a show in the next two weeks, and we're working on getting Matt Doherty into the studio as well. We'll keep you posted and again, thanks for listening.

Hey -
Whatever happened to KSMU?
That was the station when I was there in the 70's. A perfect name for a college radio station, I guess. Here, we have KUSC for USC's radio station.
Just wondering.

I believe there were some legal issues that shut it down. When I got to SMU in 97 it had already been changed to KPNI and was just broadcast in the student center.

Thx.
Too bad we couldn't do better than the initials "KPNI" vs. something more synonymous with the "SMU" initials.

The legal issues involved SMU letting the license lapse and then the SMU students boradcasting the signal illegally. The FCC yanked the license permanently. That would be a valuable asset today, but now one SMU is not likely to ever reacquire.

I kinda liked it since it looks like pony, or at least I assumed that's what they were getting at.

They also violated the 105% rule (I believe thats the one). The FCC offered to reinstate the license sometime in the 90s for highpower transmission, but the radio station lacked the funding to pay for it.
