Could the Houston game be set up any better? So UH beats Tulsa, creating a two-way tie for first in the west. UH has some attention on them, and I'm thinking they will bring a good contingency of fans, especially with the efforts of Briles to boost support.
Someone else posted: we win out, we win the west. One game at a time. My question/concern: what does SMU do with this opportunity? If UH plays like they did today, it could be arguably the best team to play vs. the Ponies at Ford in awhile. Will our guys step up? Will UH play down to a different level? Will our guys p*ss away an opportunity? Will UH have a letdown after this week? THIS is the kind of situation that would warrant some attention from local media in Dallas and Houston. See ya'll there.
It sets up perfect. SMU is a trap game now after they beat Tulsa handily. SMU had 11 days to prepare.
Our opportunity couldn't be any better.
If the Coogs play like they did today........we will have to play by far our best game of the year to have a chance. Kolb is a four year starter, and they will throw all over the field. I hope we get lot's of Stangs to come out for this one.....it should be exciting! Go Stangs!!!!
go ponies

I hate to be a downer, but it's hard to even fathom SMU winning out based on what I've seen this year. C'mon. Let's be real. Remember NTSU? A fluke you say? Okay, remember ECU? The only thing that happened today was that Houston just got closer to nudging us out of a bowl game.
I'm sorry. I really hate being a pessimist about this kind of stuff. But, all this "hey, great, we still 'control our destiny' and can be C-USA West Champs" stuff almost angers me. If we can somehow manage to beat Houston--which, by the way, seems like a huge pipedream at this point--then tell me about our chances of winning C-USA or the West. I just want a frickin' bowl game, and the Houston win today just put another nail in the frickin' coffin. ![]() Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
We beat Houston last year at their house. This year they have lost some studs to injury and they haven't been a great road team. It is our Homecoming and we have won 6 straight at home.
If you can't find the sunshine in all of that then I can't help you.
Yup, that's what I thought last year before we knocked off UH, and UTEP ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
This time last year, Romo was putting up 300 yards a game passing too.
He wasn't good.. except for in the games he started helping us win at the end there.
You talk about flukes and remembering NTSU. Let's remember Houston's loss to the lowly Ragin' Cajuns. Let's remember their squeaker of a win over Rice in the first game when everyone thought Rice was awful (and more than likely were, they have really grown as a team as the year has progressed). There is no doubt in my mind that we cannot win out if we don't play to our potential. PB has said all season long there is more talent that isn't being shown. We can defend the pass (we stopped UTEP in the second quarter without two defensive ends and held them to one of their lowest scoring games of the season). Sure we dropped the ball at ECU. No one expected them to come out like that. We have our work cut out for us, but have some faith. I'm not saying well if everyone loses out and a huge scandal breaks out at Tulsa and all the students at Houston are arrested and suspended, then and only then will we be able to go the championship. I'm not saying we have to beat UT, Ohio State, and Michigan to get there either. Believe it or not, we are pretty close to being or already at the same level as other conference teams. These guys have something other SMU teams haven't had: confidence. As well they should too. They know what's at stake. I do not expect to see a meh attitude from anyone. This is the opportunity for these guys to show that SMU is back from the dead. I know I'm going to be at the game yelling myself hoarse again and I hope to see thousands of other fans doing the same.
After going down to Houston and watching another thrilling SMU game that year, I think it is possible to beat the Cougs at home this time. However, I do not see that happening. I am sure that Kolb will not let us ruin his last year at Houston and I am sure with a chance to play in the CUSA championship, Houston will command this game. I am sure they will be watching the ECU film all week to prepare against our secondary. I just hope PB does not prepare for the run this week.
the teams of CUSA have demonstrated that anyone can beat anyone in this league. Rice's win at UTEP last night and Marshall's win sets the table for a slew of 6-6 teams in this league. And that will mean no bowl game for SMU and our 14,000 fans
But yes, color me a sunshiner because I do believe this team is at least capable on winning out. That's what may be required for SMU to go bowling.
