I guess Phils job is safe now that they've done pretty good and if they get a bowl game then he probably will retain his job. Damn it!!!

Not so fast my friend...

...There's still better than 50% chance he finishes 6-6 or worse.

Now, as the New AD...do you keep a coach that won 5 games against Div-1A competition, for the second year in a row, including the most embarassing loss in SMU history to NTSU back in September?

7-5 probably saves his job, I will agree, because of the consideration we will all give him for the UTEP now probable win had Willis been there to start.

6-6 doesn't get it...in fact, 6-6 probably won't get a bowl bid anymore with the log jam of all the 4-5 5-4 4-4 CUSA teams out there...

If it comes down to the HOUSTON bowl, do you think they will take SMU over RICE both at 6-6?

I still think PB needs to get to a bowl game. I also wouldn't be surprised if Orsini called John L. Smith to offer a sympathetic ear after what happened up at Michigan State.

In the sad event it came down to you two, I'd think SMU would be chosen.

haha, John L. Smith would be perfect here. Even though he blew it @ Mich. State, hes got the prestige kids want to play for, not some 'defensive wiz' from K-State. Either way, he should go if he does worse than 6-6. With this team and that schedule, they should be better than they are. They're losing games because of coaching and not because of a tough schedule or lack of talent.

As long as Orsini can get money from the alums to take care of it, he'll fire or keep Bennett at any record, depending on who is available to replace him. We just need to wait for a proven, name coach to fail/get disgraced somewhere and come here to rebuild his reputation.

If you want your team to lead CUSA in penalties every year, then Smith is your man.

If you want your team to lose significant games and have good season go south, then Smith is your man.

No thank you.

Let's leave the coaching change discussions until after the next 4 games. Then if the ghost of Knute Rockne rises from the grave and declares that he really would like to get back into coaching at SMU then we can determine what we do.

So that means he should stay if he reaches 6-6?

^^ yea man, if he goes 6-6 or better, thats a huge confidence boost for him and our team knowing we didn't have a losing record this year. But we could finish 5-7 with this schedule and if that happens, he must go. The pressure to win is too great these days and when you've had 5 years to work your magic, especially with the most talented team in years and a favorable schedule, the coaching is whats losing you games. Thing about all the play calling they messed up in important situations, not being prepared for others, AND NOT WINNING ON THE ROAD. You have to be freaking kidding me. One win on the road, in which you could have won all but one (Tech was a loss before the game started), something is not right. I blame the pistol formation, get rid of it, or stop running out of it on 3rd/4th and short.

Okay, but 6-6 is only one better than last year in the W column, and no improvement in the L column. According to the new GoRedGoBlue math, our season is already in the toilet because we did not win all of the GUARANTEED FREE WINS. I say 6-6 is a legitimate case for cutting the coach loose.

Coach talk is premature when a coach has two games at home and a third against a sub .500 team to win the division.

Wait for the guy to lose before you condemn him.
