UH Info

Hi, I am a long time Coog who love college football. I am looking forward to the game and I thought I might provide some insights - if you are interested.

Nothing that I post is intended to flame or imply anything against SMU. I am just putting down what I think to be true.

I don't believe there are more than 2 or 3 other teams with as diverse an offense as UH in terms of plays and players. I don't need to say anything about Kolb except we will miss him next year.

Unlike most teams like UTEP, we do not have one really fast go to WR. The leading receiver changes almost every week. Our top 3 deep threats are:

Avery
Marshall
Alridge

Our big WR used as possession receivers are
Ealy 6-3
Harvey 6-5

Avery is almost exclusively used as a deep route WR. But all of our WR will run deep.

Our top 3 WRs in yards are:

Avery 696 yds
Marshall 568 yds
Harvey 591 yds

our next 3 all have over 200 yards.

For most of the year Alridge has been used as a WR and only ran the ball 1 to 5 times a game. Starting with UTEP he has been close to double digits in the numbers of carries with at most 12. This dude is very slippery and fast but he will not power his way through your DL. He needs a hole. If he gets one, he will be through it like lightning.

Our power back is Jackie Battle. He is big and tough to bring down but fumbles too often when fighting for extra yards. He is money in short yardage but not much of a threat to break away. He also does not get many passes thrown his way.

Our defense improved with the return of a few injured players for the UTEP game. I think they played their best game against UTEP. We have had a terrible time with running QB's in 3rd and long. I would rather face 3 and 2 than 3rd and 12 because of that. Is your QB fast?

Anyway, it is going to be tough to stop us. If you can run the ball consistently with success and cause a fumble or two your chances for a win will go way up. Kolb has not thrown but one pass this year that should have been an INT (that I can remember). The 3 he has were from our WR's deflecting the ball.

How are you guys in terms of injuries? I hope you are in good shape as I like to see everyone play their best players.

Here is to a good game with no injuries and good calls by CUSA refs. I have pretty much given up on the latter.

BTW, we should have a strong UH crowd up there considering the attitude down here. Our AD is asking as many to go as possible. Our entire band is going so I expect at least 3,000 but more likely upwards of 5,000.

Do ya'll have any restrictions on tailgating?

Well, at least last week most of the bad calls were in your team's favor. The fumble-that-never-was could have changed the outcome of the game. But, you're right. We've all been victims at some point of terrible officiating from the CUSA refs.

As far as restrictions for tailgating, there are a few other threads dedicated to that.

After watching those highlights, I don't think I am going to the game. Houston is the greatest team in the country!
