McCoy & Willis are having really good seasons for any QB much less freshmen...even putting up Kolb type numbers (Kolb had 25td to 6int's his fresh year).

But, I don't know...I'd still have to go...

2006 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award nominee

2006 Davey O'Brien Foundation semifinalist

Kevin Kolb and his 2852 passing yards

Coog fun fact:

In the 1st quarter this weekend Kolb, who has 12,723 career total yars, will pass Luke McCown(LaTech - 12,731yds ) for #5 on the NCAA All-Time Career Total Yards Leader list.

(addtion: It'll be interesting to see how Colt does next year without phenom Sweed. Kolb dropped off considerably after losing Brandon Middleton. I'm sure Colt will do good but targets like Sweed don't come along very often.)

Please, wake me up when Kolb has an award-winning outing against a defense ranked about 100.

OK...since your looking for performance against crappy d's... :P

OSU - 77th ranked D

Kolb - 21 of 28 (75%), 313yds in the air, 4TD, 0 INT's, 42 yards rushing, & 216.05 QB ratin.

Go back to bed now.

There is no real way to compare this based on the stats in my opinion. For one their numbers this season are all pretty similar. Slew of TDs, very few picks, completion percentages btwn 68-71 percentish. The only big difference being Willis has had by far the fewest pass attempts.

Ya, McCoy has played against better teams than Kolb and Willis but he also has better surrounding players. Also, he still played games against crap teams N. Texas, SHSU. Then you take into account that Kolb has had 4 years of experience compared to 2 redshirt Freshman which gives him a huge advantage over the other two in the experience department. Of course there are tons of other factors I am not even thinking about. I am just happy as an SMU fan to have 1 of the QBs who is having such a fantastic season.

What I like is this. Look at the top 10 QBs in passer rating. The 3 mentioned above are all in the top 10, went to highschool and college in Texas. Then look at Bobby Ried of OSU, ranked #10 in QB rating originally from North Shore HS here in Houston. 4 of the top 10 in QB rating right here from Texas- pretty cool for our state if you ask me. Did I overlook anyone else?

Colt is #2 in the nation in passing efficiency; however, I'd take the senior leadership of #7 Kevin Kolb. Justin Willis is rated #9 nationally.

How about the Texarkana High kid who's accepted a 'ship at Michigan? I believe he's supposed to be a top 5 national guy but then again look how great Matt Stafford's doing this year.

Tony Romo?

OSU and tulsa both came into our games with ballyhooed defenses and left with bloody noses, I fully expect the same thing to happen to SMU.

Also consider yards per attempt (select TX QBs):

1. Kolb -- 9.0
2. McCoy -- 8.3
3. Harrell -- 7.5
4. Willis -- 7.2

Why does Willis have fewer yards per attempt than Harrell or the others? Other than Bobby Chase, no other receivers come to mind but I believe there are a couple other really good ones.

Most of our passes are designed to be short, so even when complete we're picking up 4-8 yards. We also have a tendency to run the old 0 yard pass a couple times per game.
