Trick Plays

Postby ponyup10 » Thu Nov 09, 2006 2:19 am

I was talking with a friend the other day and he said he would like to see SMU use the flea flicker...

we've had sledge throw the ball this season and it worked to perfection...should the Mustangs pull something from up their sleeve against Houston or should they keep it simple?

Don't mean to sound like a [deleted] but this is a stupid Poll...the answer lies in a 2 part answer.

It is kind of obvious that Justin Willis is the most crucial part of this offense. However, the correct answer should be the O-line in most cases but our line has not played great as of late....they group works hard day in and day out but still has trouble with blocking in the running department I think.

Trick plays are crucial though in late season games. I would like to see another WR pass but from a different player other than Sledge. Givens played some QB in HS so I would like to see him heave one down field to B. Chase this Saturday.

Before we run trick plays, we have to crack open the playbook first. Bennett has been too conservative as of late and a trick play won't just work at any given time, you have to set it up first with the right plays by keeping the defense on their heels. And they def. cannot use the Sledge to Chase play, the defenses will be ready for that the second Sledge touches the ball.

Thats kinda the point. Does one say that Willis can do it without the O-line, or is it the O-line that determines whether the offense sinks or swims

I said on Monday in the blog that if by the end of these next three games there was one play in hte playbook unused, I was going to be PO'd. And then I qualified it by saying I never wanted to see the freeze play or the swinging gate again.
