This is great news.

How long has it been since SMU had Bowl Rep's come to a home game.

Now tell me that Bennett has not done a good job. He started with a small slow team and now we are bigger, faster and have higher skilled players.

I hope Bennett and staff make it to a bowl this year and then build upon that for the future.

Just like the Ft. Worth Bowl guy was there to see UAB?
We have a good shot at either of those bowls if we get a few wins

They are there for you. Houston has the Liberty Bowl more than likely

NO Bowl gets the 4th or 5th best team in CUSA

I was thinking about this. They get 4th and 5th choice, not 4th or 5th best record, right? Hypothetically, if SMU were sixth but still eligible, I think they can take whoever they want. No doubt the conference would discourage that, though.

Pressure? SMU has endured failure for the last twenty years. No one really expects this team to make a bowl game. Sure, we all would like SMU to have a winning season, go to a bowl game, have a big party, etc. But come on. Everyone who has followed this program for the last twenty years cannot really expect to believe it until it happens. I will believe it when I see it. I have been let down too many times in the past. Hopefully, this team will kick the door open and show everyone this is not the same old SMU. But there really should not be any pressure on us. It should be on Houston. They are expected to win. They are expected to compete for a conference championship with a senior qb who has run the offense since high school and with an admission policy equal to a community college. I hope SMU plays lights out with nothing to lose Saturday and really go for it. I hope we do not come out and play conservative (not to lose) football. Go for it. We have absolutely nothing to lose.

Although the SMU story would be great, if I am bowl selection I go with the team that travels best. That makes it tough for SMU unless it is us or Rice. We have talked about the attendance requirements for home teams by the NCAA. I do not ever see a problem with that in reality. But reality is that it does exist for bowl games and if they do not draw, they are shut down. I see the NO Bowl as a possiblity for SMU if we get 6 games because we can promote the love we showed for Tulane to hopefully get the City of New Orleans to become SMU fans for a day.

Right, SMU Blog..it is 4th. or 5th. CHOICE, not based on record....so, we could have a better record v. a fellow C-USA foe, but not get choosen, for a variety of reasons, primarily due to alum /fan travel and national interest....good thing they are coming on Homecoming, crowd should be decent. BEAT HU!

Correct is CHOICE

Thats how in 02 we got Cincy the Co-Champs

God they suck at travleing

You guys should travel well I assume seeing its the 1st in 20 years

Cant speak to NO in its present state but in the past was great bowl atmosphere and its on a Friday this year. To me its better than going to El Paso or Shreveport or Funky Town.

Win out and Hello CUSA Title game

Wait a second. We need to get this strtaight. I was under the impression based upon several posts linked to this site that the CUSA bowls must choose a 7 win team before a 6 win team is eligible. I've been trying to verify this but having trouble locating it. So if true, record will play a vital role in which bowl we end up at. An a 7 win season is the threashold most of these schools are still looking at. Under this scenario SMU will almost surely need 7 wins to go bowling ie 2-1 over the remaing 3 games.

we are talking about CUSA's 5 bowl games-and it is not mute because its not certain CUSA will have 5 bowl eligible teams much less 5 seven win teams.

I remember in 2001 when Rice went 8-4 and didn't go to a bowl.....man I would have been pissed. But it was the wac, don't know how many tie ins they had then.

How can you get excited when NO BOWL officials are coming to the game?

That gets funnier every time I write it.
