Once the Ponies are bowl-eligible, there will be stories like this coast-to-coast.

Interesting parts:

A .500-or-better SMU might prove irresistible to the Fort Worth Bowl, which is played at Amon Carter Stadium, about 40 miles from SMU's Dallas campus. The best-attended game in the bowl's three-year history was in 2003, when hometown TCU lost 34-31 to Boise State in front of about 38,000 fans.

"I would love to be part of their revival," said Tom Starr, executive director of the Fort Worth Bowl. "They are just a great story: Coming back from the death penalty, the long road back, building their program back up."

Good to know...

"It's hard for me to believe ... that we can't get 25 or 28,000 a game," Bennett said. "If you play some games that are meaningful, and I hope these next two at home will be, then you will get more interest."

I too, cannot believe that we couldn't find 25K who wanted to watch us play Arkansas State. I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell you!

Interestingly that story was an AP story. Wonder where else it was picked up.

I wouldn't call it a revival yet. Call me when the Mustangs get 7 wins and a win in a bowl.

Then I'll get on the revival bandwagon.

The fort worth bowl would be awesome! Think how many SMU fans and alumni are currently in the DFW area and Texas in general....we could easily pack that stadium! Here's to hoping thats the case.

I hope you guys do get back. It's in the best interest of our conference to have competitive football. AND, I just think SMU being down is sad. I'm originally from Odessa, and I think it's sad that Odessa Permian is down.

So... here's to your success.

Of course, I do hope the Coogs win this weekend. BUT, I hope you guys win out afterward! 8)

I would love to go to the Ft. Worth bowl and play the Froggies. I would love to make sure that we play those guys every year. We might even fill up that dump over there with a good grudge match.

But that extension came before Orsini arrived in June and made his first splashy hire: former Notre Dame and North Carolina coach Matt Dougherty to lead SMU basketball.

Good article, but the most recognizable name in it was misspelt.
