I was flipping through the SMU historical stats, and the 1993 against Baylor grabbed my attention. Baylor attempted 91 rushes and zero (0) none, not a single pass.
What were the circumstances of that?

The ran that damn option offense (not to be confused with the triple option that Rice ran under Hatfield), behind quarterback J.J. Joe (who admittedly was a damn good runner) and an offensive line that -- next to our defense -- looked like a row of Coke machines. I kept stats for the radio broadcast that day, and in the rushing column, I went through FOUR stat sheets. They didn't even act like they were going to throw the ball, or go to play-action only to have it called back for a flag. By early in the second quarter, their WRs -- they usually only had one in the game -- stopped "faking" the routes. They just took a step or two, and stopped. Didn't even bother to snap their chin straps, and the officials didn't hassle them about it. They probably could have wandered out there without helmets, and nobody would have said a thing. What a miserable day that was.

31-12. Followed by a tie with Houston the next week.
