Sure, we can debate the Daily Campus' sports coverage from time to time, but today's Ed Board piece is right on the money...

Fans, stay in the stands
The game doesn't end at halftime, so stay for the whole thing

Welcome home, alumni, we're glad you're back!

This weekend is a great opportunity for current and former students to meet and reminisce about their days on the Hilltop. There are many great events planned for the weekend. From the Pigskin Review to the Homecoming Parade and most importantly, the Saturday afternoon game against the University of Houston at Ford Stadium, this weekend is going to be great.

But it seems many students don't realize the point of Homecoming isn't just to watch the king and queen get elected. It's supposed to be about the football, too.

School spirit is a great boost at any institution, and we think SMU's been lacking for too long.

Ed Board realizes how much it sucks to watch a crappy football team lose. But our team isn't crappy. We also realize that has been the case here for a long time. But our team is riding on a six-game home winning streak and hasn't lost at Ford in more than a year.

For those of you who showed up last week against UAB, great work. Let's do it again. Just because there aren't any TV stations showing up doesn't mean you shouldn't either.

Now here's the big thing: STAY FOR THE ENTIRE GAME.

Yeah, we know, it's a novel idea, but it worked pretty well last week against UAB, didn't it? Most of us stayed at the game, we won, we rushed the field, and it was fun.

The tradition of late is to stay at the homecoming game until halftime, and once the homecoming court is announced, leave before the third-quarter whistle blows.

This should never happen, but it most certainly can't happen tomorrow.

The team needs our support

This game is very important for the Mustang's 2006 campaign. One more win, and SMU will be eligible to attend its first Bowl Game since 1984. On top of that, one more win ties the record for the most number of wins in a season since the death penalty.

Obviously, this match-up against Houston is crucial. Houston is 7-3 on the season and has seen a lot of success in 2006. More importantly, Houston is a regional rival that

This rivalry has a lot of history to it. In 1989, our first year back in college football, Houston whipped up on SMU, running the score up 95-12. SMU has finally gotten to the point where we have a team that can compete and be successful. Our classmates work hard all season to produce on the field. The have done their part to earn our respect, and they earn it.

If you have any amount of respect or admiration for this university or for college traditions, you'll go to the game.

Mr. Board needs to read up on his history as the score (as we can't forget) was 95-21. Good sentiment but not very well written overall. Take some more classes, Ed.

Absolutely agree. It never fails to amaze me how the stadium empties at halftime. Ponies could be up 30, down 30 or locked in a tie game, and the parade of students who leave is shameful.

Be in the seats BY KICKOFF.
Stay for the ENTIRE FREAKIN' GAME.
Scream until you lose at least one lung.
Stay and cheer the team at the end of the game, win or lose.
You can go drink afterward. It's an afternoon game, so there's plenty of time before and after to go get lit.

No alcohol on the Boulevard during game time would solve the problem.

I hate when they show up 5 minutes before the half and then leave after the half. No fans at all; just a bunch of rich snobs, like me.

It's okay, though, because that was not a guaranteed free win.

Not true...I saw it in person and he did not blame the refs in any way. In fact, he said they were beaten by a more physical team.
