4th and 1 cost us the game.Dear Phil-
Please do not EVER run a delayed handoff on 4th and goal ever again. Put Ryan Kennedy as blocking back and give it to Martin. Your idiotic playcalling cost us another game!!
A) no it didnt, that 3rd and 19 they converted in the 4th cost us the game
B) why did we run a sweep? that was horrendous play calling on our part. We had no success running all game, and the best bet, even for 1 yard, was to punch it up the gut, and they run a sweep. Stupid play. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Further proof that SMU needs a jumbo set and I don't know, maybe a FB?!
Re: 4th and 1 cost us the game.
AGREED, QB keeper, play action, anything but a delay or sweep on 4th and 1...WTF. Kick the f'in FIELD GOAL!! This is SMU, take the points.
Gotta admit that was a wacky cal, especially when we gift wrapped that score for you with 3 penalties.
Seriously, good luck to you guys... not really here to talk crap. That was a scary rollercoaster game. And SMU has a really good team. Good luck to you guys...
whats even worse is they took a timeout before the play, so they got a chance to think about it and still made a stupid call.
Re: 4th and 1 cost us the game.
Yeah, that's where I'm thinking having the T, wishbone, or Power I formation in your playbook comes in handy for short yardage situaiions. I know Forrest Gregg, and Tom Rossley used the T, and maybe power I formations in those situations. The T actually got us a crutial first down during the miracle against UCONN ![]()
Re: 4th and 1 cost us the game.
I agree. I also agree with myself that the best rushing defense in CUSA shouldn't give up 357 yards rushing. I also agree with myself that when you see running the ball doesn't work, you go back to what does, passing. When you have a foot on your opponents throat, go ahead and step on it. I also agree with myself that giving up 50% 3rd down conversions is unacceptable. I also agree with myself that the 3 and a bus ride from the Houston 1 was some of the worst defense in the history of known defense. Houston didn't win this game. We lost it. It didn't cost us the game, but it did make it more difficult and was a STUPID call. If you can't power the ball up the middle for one yard, then kick the field goal. If we had kicked the field goal then we would have been driving for a game winning field goal after Houston took the lead in the fourth being down by 1 instead of 4. The turnover makes it a moot point.
Come and Take It-every damn thing you posted proves UH deserved that game more than SMU. SMU didn't lose UH shoved it down own throat. It is amazing to me how some can't give any credit to the better team today and that was obviously UH.
I thought we played a step above what we've been playing on D, and still.. I'm not surprised that we got smoked in the running game. We DONT have the #1 rushing D because we're actually good at stopping the run.. puh-leaze. Anyone that actually follows each game and has at least 15 brain cells in on the thought process can tell you that every other team keyed in on the passing game. Our secondary did shut down their recievers for the most part.. and yet as much as I want to praise them, they're still slow as [deleted] when they can't track down a back 70 yds.. I don't give a damn how fast Aldridge or Battle were.. how can our D-line be consistently inconsistent like that? Shut down the run 2 plays, then get whalloped and have a 10 yard hole opened up on them the next. Houston gashed us.. and it was pathetic. We've still got recruiting issues.. this is personnel, I almost feel bad for Bennett. I vow to never watch another SMU game again if I see one more linebacker or safety take the WRONG angle on a tackle resulting in a 20+ yard play. Defensive pursuit means nothing if they're all misjudging speed again.. and again.. and again. To conclude, Carrington plays his heart out, but he's the most unathletic kid I've ever witnessed. Jesus.
I don't know who you are telling to shut up, but I didn't say Bennent calls the plays, I just said it was a STUPID call. I will reiterate what someone else pointed out, and that is the fact that Bennent called a timeout to discuss the play. Don't you assume he had input on that call?
