Rather than have 489305 posts on this, post your thoughts:
Personally, the second half blew my mind away. Playing to lose is not a good thing, and that 3rd and 19 conversion really killed the team. They had a great effort, and I really don't see them winning out. They're offense was pretty good and they made a nice rally to tie it after falling 14-0. Besides coaching/play calling, here is what went wrong on both sides of the ball:
Offense: Lack of a big play. Willis never had time to throw, the line couldn't block, they couldn't establish the run, and why, oh why do they continue to run up the gut on that pistol crap? That is their worst play by far, and it annoys me when they do it. Get a FB and run it up with a lead blocker! Way to go PB and coaches.
Defense: Tackle, tackle, tackle. This is fundamental football folks, and if you can't tackle, regardless of how fast their RB was, you aren't going to win. Period. Their defense was fine other than that. They held Kolb in check, but it was their ground game that won it for Houston.
Overall: Could have been a win, especially with that crowd, but their offense didn't work in the second half, and Houston took advantage. Also didn't help that Mapps fumbled late to give them the game. Better luck next week!

Inconsistancy has been a big bugaboo for the coogs in Briles tenure. In the past our teams would have just cratered the whole game, but this years team seems capable of overcoming bad play, stupid mistakes, etc...
AAlridge is incredible. He's just coming into his own and you guys got in the way. IMO you run at a 3-4 and run around a 4-3...your guys run a 4-3 which played into AA's speed...once he clears the DE there are less defenders that can get over to help....you'd rather have a LB trying to get AA than a DT IMHO. You can't tackle what you can't touch.
Kolb has had a few lemon 1/2's and a few lemon games. He has tightened up in some bigger games and with the CUSA west on the line he definately was off. In the past Briles would have just kept letting us go 3 & out with the pass* and abandoned the run...see the FW Bowl last year. Our only success was running wide on them...but we got behind and stopped doing it.
I was having this weird 05 flashback right before Kolb let that ball go from our endzone. In my mind I had already given up the safety and was happy it happened early...then the Senior comes through....its a different team we have. More mature. More poised. More confident.
...wait for it...wait for it....there it is...another bad special teams play by my coogs. Man, I don't know what the deal is but our special teams can blow. Offsides on that FG miss...was just like a turnover. That said I'm still shocked we stopped you guys on that 4th & 1 after the TWO 5 yard penalties....we both sucked and rocked within the same "game clock" time. That 4th & 1...I'd have gone for it too. Tough break...good play by us...
Defensively thats about the way the coogs have played all year. We're good for 1/2 to 3/4. Thank goodness we saved the better part for the last 1/2.
Your QB is solid as hell for a freshman. Better than the senior from UTEP for sure and more mobile. You guys should be tough next year.
Thats enough for now...good luck the rest of the way.
Just keep the tasers at bay and your guys'll be OK.

You were okay with me until that last line.

Why?
I just read about the incident earlier in the week and the only thing I've read made it look like the dallas pd was overly aggressive(looked a little but I couldn't find any resolution articles & nobody here was talking). Is/was this not the case? Because honestly, thats how I ment it.

Ok first off this loss hurts, a lot. But I've cooled down enough, I believe, to take a reasonable stance.
1) We opened up awful. I could not believe how bad things started.
2) I can't believe how we turned it around. 24 consecutive points on arguably one of the elite defenses in the country.
3) The rush defense. Had Haywood not gotten hurt on the first Alridge touchdown probably wouldn't have been as big of a problem. But ya know, injuries happen, you have to deal with it and suck it up and play. No excuses.
4) Does anyone realize that we held the "Heisman candidate" to TWELVE passing yards in the first half. 12!! I thought our pass defense sucked guys? Apparently not. He ended up with 147 passing yards. His lowest since Michigan his freshman year. I'd say that's a definite plus.
5) I'm tired of these stupid plays that we repeat over and over. We need more than 5 plays. I want to see the flea flicker again. I want to see some fake punts and field goals. I want to see reverses. I want our coordinators to grow a pair and actually call something worthwhile. These guys have the talent, let's put it to use.
6) Why can't we tackle? One-arm tackles work when the opponent is like 4 years old. We are playing with the big boys now, so we need to tackle like it.
I hate this loss almost as much as the UNT loss. Houston is the best team in the conference. We had the ability to beat them, we just couldn't hang on. The world did not stop turning. (I don't think... I'm really trying to figure that one out since Kansas State beat UT) I have faith in this team. These are very good players. The years to come still look bright.

#5 is dead on. Play calling kills me. Its so predictable and everytime we line up in the pistol, the D knows its going to be a run up the middle. I want to see Willis attack the Tulsa secondary with more PA roll outs, bootlegs, trick plays, anything to score. I almost wish we're losing at the half against Tulsa and Rice, that way we can come out and play to win.
