For those who could (on the west side of the stadium, at least), did you hear him? OMG!
He couldn't form complete sentences at times, he couldn't pronounce words at times (like 'championship' which came out 'champion...uh, ship'), he announced the score at the end of the 3rd quarter as 'and the score at the end of the 4th quarter is...' and he also said 'be sure to be here for homecoming next week against Tulsa'!
He has made other mistakes all during the course of the season.
Seriously. This guy has got to go.

Do you posters always need someone to complain about?

I complain probably less than the majority of the other posters on this board.

I also heard him say "Byron Bonds on the tackle" 2 times, then correct himself on the 3rd. The guy is a senior and has played all 4 years, you would think he could get it right.

We were laughing about that too. Maybe he was really expecting a fake every time.

Most announcers I hear do say "apparent" field goal attempt in respect of the possible fake. I kind of felt sorry for the guy. First he tried like heck to get the fans to say "Mustangs" after he says "it's another first down for the SMU............ . I did not hear many "Mustangs" in response. Then someone obviously handed him an old script for the current homecoming game promotion and he was at least able to catch the mistake and try to correct it, and then he did just totally lose it at the end of the 3rd Q calling it the 4th. I really think he is frustrated with trying to get the crowd to repsond when he has to realize first that our crowd today is not very repsonsive, and second, the east side can not hear him. Another bad day like Saturday and I bet we hear an amplified expletive.

the use of "apparent" also comes into play with the distance of the field goal...
its an "apparent 35-yard field goal attempt" because that isnt the official distance that is announced later

Is an announcer really necessary? Get your info off the scoreboard, watch the replays, and review/learn the officials signals for penalty information.

Since my original post I have been notified that the announcer is battling a serious illness and was on medication last Saturday and that may have contributed to some of what was said...or not said properly.
My thoughts and prayers go out to him. I hope he gets well soon. I ask that all ponyfans send thoughts and prayers out to him, too.

The mistakes are no big deal. The thing that kills me is that SMU cannot let one second of deadball time pass without an endless announcement and/or commercial. Just once can't we listen to the band?

Is it not possible to edit the title of the thread?
