Willis chasing McCoy, NATIONAL record

Apparently down in Austin, they're making a big deal about some kid named McCoy. Seems he has a chance to break the national record for touchdown passes by a freshman. I was told the national record is 27. OUR MAN JUSTIN WILLIS has 23, right?
If McCoy's injury is serious enough for him to sit out a game or two, it's conceivable Willis could establish a NEW national record!
Speaking of OUR MAN JUSTIN WILLIS, he has 23 touchdowns, which already is the SMU record for touchdown passes in a season. More impressive, in just nine games, he's more than halfway to the SMU record for touchdown passes in a CAREER (40, by Chuck Hixson).

5 in the last two games is certainly doable. I look for that Rice game to be a real shootout with lots of scoring.

Also, Sanders has 9 touchdowns this year - the record for a freshman is 14. Bowl games count towards stats so hopefully he gets 3 games to score 6 touchdowns!

As much as I would love to see Willis own that record, the chances are slim. He needs 6 + 1 to own it and McCoy only needs 2 + 1 to own it. The difference is McCoy (injury or not) will play in a bowl game, Willis (probably) won't.

Well, even in a loss against Rice, he could do that...Rice is allowing its opponents to score 35-40 pts a game in a sneak attack effort to lure the other team into thinking they will win, then they score some late points to win it...

Colt had a stinger. He should be good to go for the rest of the season. Barring any more goal-line mishaps, he should be able to break the record.
As far as Willis, it'll be a tall order, but I think he has a good chance as well. However, he'll have to have Heisman-like outings in his last two games to even have a chance.

Before 2002, postseason games were not included in NCAA final football statistics or records. Beginning with the 2002 season, all postseason games were included in NCAA final football statistics and records.
