You can talk about BCS, but there is nothing better than beating your rival and holding the trophy in your case. For us, holding the Iron Skillet is a pride thing.

This is the best but also the saddest week in college football. The rivalry games are here, but it also signlas the end of the regular season for others.

So here is what the teams play for. There is a web site for this, but these are the ones I know off the top of my head.

SMU-TCU -- The Iron Skillet
SMU-Rice -- The Mayor's Cup

Rice-Houston -- The Bayou Bucket

Minnesota-Iowa -- The Floyd of Rosedale
Minnesota-Wisconsin -- The Paul Bunyan Axe
Minnesota-Michigan -- The Little Brown Jug
Minnesota-Penn State -- The Governor's Victory Bell

Indiana-Purdue -- The Old Oaken Bucket
Indiana-Michigan State -- The Brass Spittoon
Indiana-Kentucky -- The Bourban Bucket

Michigan-Michigan State -- The Paul Bunyan Trophy (There is a difference)
Michigan State-Penn State -- Land Grand Trophy

Iowa-Wisconsin -- The Heartland Trophy
Iowa-Iowa State -- The CyHawk Trophy

Kansas-Missouri -- The Indian Drum
Texas-Oklahoma -- The Golden Hat

LSU-Arkansas -- The Silver Boot

USC-UCLA -- The Victory Bell

Washington-Washington State -- The Apple Cup

UNLV-Nevada -- Freemont Cannon

Army, Navy, Air Force -- The Commander in Chief's Trophy

If you know of any others, please feel free.

I knew Kentucky and Tennessee played for something. And I couldn't remember what it was. And I didn't know those trophys with Tennessee and Indiana were discontinued because of the unfortunate death.

The one I'm kind of surprised they don't have one for is Georgia-Auburn since it is the oldest rivalry in the DEEP south. I know about UNC-UVA, but the historians call that one the oldest in the south.

What's cool is if you go into reading the story on how some of these trophy games got started.

For instance, with Minnesota-Michigan, in some game in the 1920s or 1930s -- not sure where it was played -- Michigan played Minnesota and left its jug on the sidelines when it left the field after the game was over.

After they got home, Michigan people called Minnesota and asked if they could send it back. Minnesota said sure, but you're going to have to play us for it...and voilla.

Of course, the way that series is going, it's really a game for the Gophers to remember what the darn thing looks like.

But it was cool to have it in 2005.
