After following who I needed to pull for week in and week out in the BCS for TX to move up, and having that all fall apart last wknd.... can someone give me a simple snapshot of which CUSA schools need to win/lose for the best shot at an smu bowl game (assuming a win this wknd). or point me to the best thread...

Heh,

Just covered this in my thread. We need Rice to beat ECU and Marshall to beat UTEP. Rest probably doesn't matter.

Be nice if UAB could beat southern miss.

don't listen to bagice, I think he's smoking crack.

RICE, UTEP, and USM need to lose their last 2 games ... and that is possible...

The best shot for us is to win out and we make it in easily but if we split, those 3 teams I mentioned above need to lose both games.

Root for:
Marshall over UTEP
ECU over Rice
SMU over Tulsa
UAB over So. Miss

But if UTEP wins its last two games (highly likely), putting them at 7-5, and ECU and USM each win one more, aren't we shut out even if we go 7-5? (I don't know, I'm asking...)

Houston 8-3
Tulsa 7-3
ECU 6-4
USM 6-4
UTEP 5-5

Yes, there is a possibility of being shut out at 7-5 but that last bid would be the N.O. Bowl. I am confident they would pick us over USM.

Its all screwed up no matter what. Our best chance is to win out. If not, those three teams need to lose out.

I still stand by my thinking that it is better for us if Rice Keeps ECU from getting 7 wins. This will pretty much eliminate the possibility that we would get shut out if we won the last two and would dramatically increase our odds of being able to make it at 6-6 if we win 1 of 2.

What you have to look at is that if ECU beats Rice, then we are staring dead square in the face of being shut out no matter what we do unless Marshall beats UTEP.

A Rice win gives us the most options.

I suppose if we beat Tulsa and Tulane beats them so they go 7-5, and we get to 7 wins, we would edge them out. So Tulsa is not a lock on a bowl, yet. Right?

Right, the only locks are Houston and the either ECU or USM.

If we win out we will have a better shot.

A rice win this week does not give us the best options....it gives the conference and bowl committee MORE OPTIONS...

Houston is in no matter what.

Practically speaking, I don't think any of this matters if SMU loses to Tulsa.

Growing up, I remember years of having to hope certain teams would lose at the end of the season so the Saints would make the playoffs. That never worked out.

But that's what makes sports so fun, cheering for other teams to lose so your team still has a chance.

Too true.... I'm just worried about us to get to 7-5... that's all.

don't know why it cut my comment off, but I was asking why you are confident they would pick us over USM. B/c of the story of us coming back aver 20 years? USM is in Hattiesburg - much closer to NOLA than we are...
