Stay Aggressive in play calling - KEY TO THE GAME

Postby BUS » Thu Nov 16, 2006 2:21 pm

Last week we played like champions the first half.

EVEN with the missed Touchback, 14 give away points, Even with the fumble we could have, SHOULD have won.

We went to the first page of the playbook in the second half. The coaches called the "NOT TO LOSE" plays.

If we stay aggressive and let the O rock and roll, we score more points in the second half and WIN.

Come on Mustangs

I hear ya,

I hope we do stay agressive and take some chances on offense. I don't see it happening though, this game oozes of a defensive struggle chess match of "playing not to lose" that Bennet seems to love.

Tulsa hasn't blown anyone out recently and they have a pretty conservative offense. I can see this game being close and low scoring the whole way, in fact I can easily see it being a clone of the UAB game.

we've been saying this all year, the offense is capable of more, and shows signs of what they can do. It's all a matter of consistency

Were we really that conservative in the 2nd half? Looking at the stat sheet, in the 2nd have we threw the ball on first down just as many times as we rushed it.

I think the problem was that when we were throwing the ball, JW had a tough time finding open receivers down the field. UH did a good job in coverage. We dropped back to throw 18 times in the 2nd half, JW completed 11 and was sacked 3 times, and all three of those I would call coverage sacks.

Our inability to run the ball is what really killed us. I think we tried to throw it down the field in the 2nd half, but the UH defense did their job.

We gave up 357 yars to UH, including 3 long TDs. Previously our most yards given up were 168 to UNT. Was Roosevelt Leaks playing?

The 4th down sweep to the short side on 4th and 2 that got stuffed before it even happened was a crusher.

Like so many other times in past years our D looked completely whipped in the second half. They were gassed. Having Haywood gone and Bonds hurt didn't help.

Martin obviously is not himself. He doesn't come close to the power he showed last season.

No excuses. All teams have players injured.

Maybe TU is better than us. I don't know. I know that we have to win this game.
