Bennett quotes

Postby BRStang » Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:02 pm

I can hear the desperation in his voice:

"We've got to win. We've got to have a winning season. We've got to put ourselves in a position to be a bowl team," SMU coach Phil Bennett said. "The next two weeks, we'll see that. There are games in every season that are defining games."

"Losing's not acceptable," Bennett said. "We've got to find a way to make the plays that decide the game. We had a lot of opportunities on Saturday. ... We're good enough to have a winning season and go to a bowl, and that's going to be determined the next two weeks."

"I think our guys will be excited. We have 20 seniors playing their final game here at SMU at home, and that's good and bad. I want them to be excited, but I don't want them to be too emotional. We're playing for a lot. The bowl ramifications are very important to us."

Hopefully, the team will rally around PB and pull his head off of the chopping block again like last year. GO MUSTANGS! BEAT TULSA!

"I've forgotten more football than any of you will know in your entire lifetimes".......Phil Bennett to a room full of Mustang Club members at a pre-game function.

WOW, did he really say that? Was someone questioning the play calling or something?

I'm sure if you coach a 0-12 team you have to forget a lot of football.

Best PB quote of the year, "We prepared for the run." then james pinkney threw for almost 400 yards on are JV looking D.

I don't think those compare to the Chris Scelfo quote.

"I am embarrassed to be the coach of that offense," Tulane coach Chris Scelfo said. "Give Southern Miss credit, but for us to go out there and pee down our legs like we did for 60 minutes on offense was embarrassing."

Phil Bennett, Jerry Bennett and Bob Fello have more character than anybody who has represented this University for the past 20 years.

That includes anonymous message board posters.

I was there -- he said MANY, not ANY. You know what else? He's right. We all have our opinions about games and plays and coaches and players, and of course, we all have all the answers, but the fact is he does know more about football than anyone here, with the possible exception of those who played the game at a high level. Has he made mistakes? Sure. Have we all made mistakes? You bet -- the difference is that people don't pay to watch you and me work, and our jobs are not described in the media. Get off Coach's back. The rest of the season will dictate the future for a great deal of people, and rather than cry about something he said HOW MANY YEARS AGO? .... why not go find a coach and a couple of players and tell them how much you support them.

You are wrong. There are definitely more characters on this message board.

Hey sunshine, the title of the thread is "Bennett Quotes" so why don't you get off the guy's back who offered one.

Since "Sunshine" is a profanity in the mind of many, there's no reason to use that tag on Vitale. The comment that prompted his response, if Vitale's version is accurate, points out a vital inaccuracy that makes the Bennett "quote" not a quote at all, because the addition or removal of a single letter changes entirely the meaning of what Bennett said. The quotes BRStang offered were said this week, I guess, and sound relevant to the team. PS has brought up that other quote (or non-quote) for a couple of years now, and now it's possibly not even what Bennett said at all. There's no need for it and no benefit that can come from regurgitating that now, other than to annoy players, their families, recruits and coaches. How does that help? It doesn't.

I believe it to be a true statement, however, it was a foolish statement to make.

Why? Did it hurt some gentle feelings in the big room? Are people crushed that professional football people actually do not listen to a word they say because 99.9% of the time they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about?
