may not seem like much but I believe I'm correct in saying that now SMU could not get screwed out of a bowl with 7 wins. No more than 5 schools can reach 7 wins now including UH(qualified), Tulsa(qualified), ECU 6-5 (NCSt.), Southern Miss(UAB and Marshall), and the winner of SMU v. Rice. Without the upsets that horrible possibility was out there.

Not that I want to rely on this, but does this mean 6 wins might be enough? Assuming there aren't enough 7 win teams?

there are 6 teams at least 6 now. UTEP and Marshall could get to 6 to make 8 bowl eligible teams. Wouldn't count on it.
