The way that I read that quote is that PB was on the verge of getting the boot if they had lost, but the win gives Orsini the ammunition that he needs to give PB a reprieve for another year.

The way that I read that quote is that PB was on the verge of getting the boot if they had lost, but the win gives Orsini the ammunition that he needs to give PB a reprieve for another year.

i hope ur right... The team has been good at stringing together 3 straight wins at the end of seasons, I hope Tulsa was #1 of the 3 .... I think Orsini has a lot to think about after the way the team came back in the 2nd half...defense made some great adjustments and the offense finally got to be on the field.

I take the Orsini quote as a very honest assessment from the AD.

You don't just close the books on a season when it's over. You go over where things stand with the coach, players, fans, etc. If the team has underachived, you look at why that happened. If you think the coach is the problem, you replace him. If the team met the goals of the season, you look at what the goals for next season should be and make sure that you have everything in place to get there.

In this case I suspect they'll look at it and decide things are headed in the right direction (regardless of what happens with Rice) and leave the coaching staff alone. I think they'll make that clear to everyone as soon as possible so recruiting is not effected.

i think the rice game and a bowl bid will be a huge determining factor in whether or not PB stays... whether that is right or wrong i dont know... but I think its pretty clear that kids are playing for their pride and their coaches job! from the TUlsa World: "'We didn't give up,' Willis said to reporter's before pointing to Bennett. There is NO way that PB will get the boot whether we beat Rice or not. It would be a tragedy if this happens. If you get rid of him, you have to expect to lose a lot of recruits for next year. On top of that, you would have Willis and and the rest of the team disgruntled with the loss of THEIR coach.

It has taken some time for Phil to turn the program around, but you have to think that it is moving in the right direction at this point. We have a lot of young players that came to this program knowing that PB would be their guy. I just can't see any reasonable person thinking that it would be a good idea to get rid of him this year.

On another note, I was in Columbus yesterday for the Ohio State game... Saw Troy Smith out afterwards... If he wasn't surrounded by 100 girls and his entourage, I would have told him that he is lucky that J-Will is only a freshman.
