Missing Senior?

Postby mavsrage311 » Sun Nov 19, 2006 5:01 am

I got to the game a couple minutes late, but listening to it on the radio as all the seniors were announced, I noticed Chris Phillips was not in attendance. Now that I think of it, I didn't remember seeing him much on the sideline recently. It's kind of sad, I thought he was the future at QB a few years ago. Anyone know why he wasnt there? Has he officially quit on the team at the end of the year?

The thing I thought was weird is that he is listed as a Junior in the Media guide

Haha, I remember my freshman year he was the QB of the future after playing ok in his relief of Bartel....then they bring in Romo and Eckert and his time on this team is done....sad but thats life.

I thought it strange at the time too that he was not present even for the senior announcements. Talk about someone who went from the "future of the program" to the doghouse. It seems he was still on kickoff teams and even in the games as a 2nd/3rd TE earlier this season. I don't recall hearing of him being hurt further this year. I would hate to see any of our players not show up for their senior day because of other reasons...

i assume PB decided not to redshirt him, much like he did to Ryan Wolcott, so he could free up some spots for next year....

He is a senior by years... 2003 started the last half of the year, 2004 started the first few games, last year sat out the whole year secondary to the rotator cuff injury, and then this year.

I think expony may be right in that he is just going to use his 4 years straight up to clear scholarship room. If he wanted a 5th year, he could get a medical redshirt year for last year with no problem at all.

He has always been regarded as a bright kid, and probably jut realized that he was not going to see significant playing time again and it was just time to cut bait...

I was told yesterday by a very reliable person within the football program that - quote - "Chris has decided not to participate any further in the football program."

I personally think that is a poor excuse by Chris. Ther are always several members of the Sr. class that come out in street clothes becasue of injuries, etc. But they still show up with their class for their TEAM. I would have been on my feet for him just as I was for every senior who has dedicated himself to making our team better. I'm just sorry for Chris that he didn't get a final chance to be appreciated by SMU fans.

Unfortunately, Chris did not realy give 100% to football......which if our program is going to succeed, that is what we need our players to do. He had no problem with his eating however......

So you rip our school, our team, and individual players. He was told to bulk up for the position change, and if he's anything like I was at that age, he was growing into his frame (read: gaining weight) no matter what he ate. Do you know why he made the decision he did? No, you don't. Health, playing time, academics, family situations -- who knows what's going on with him. What I know is that when we were struggling to get even a single win, he gave up his redshirt halfway through the season and played his tail off. Your comments make you look small, insecure, juvenile and obnoxious.

CPhil is a great guy. He does have a young child as someone mentioned above. I too played against Chris in Highschool and he was an outstanding athlete but ever since his surgery he was not the same. He seemed to lack the heart needed to be on the team. He is a very funny guy too. Sad to not see him out there But I wish Chris the best.
