by that's great raplh
they ran it twice in a row - mid field - 4th quarter
each time givens caught it and the worked that magic we've been hearing about forever - he can make things happen if you give him an inch of space

Also on the play before the great block he threw for Warren, he was wide open in the back of the endzone and Willis didn't see him. It is good to see him back in the mix. Not to nitpick to much but a couple of times after he caught the ball, he went backwards to try and gain extra yards. One play he lost 4 yards from where he caught it, rather than just taking it straight upfield. He still shows a lot of bigplay potential. Hopefully he takes one to the endzone against Rice.

One of the catches Givens made looked a lot like the one Sanders made last week (although from the other side of the line of scrimmage): caught the ball, spun, got hit and got a hand down before regaining his balance and heading upfield. Great athleticism.

givens and sanders must be on the field together next year on a game by game basis...imagine the playmaking and split coverages between the two of em, next year's gonna be a show

Why wait until next year? Pull out all the stops against Rice. If we have the guns, let's fire 'em.

Those were crossing routes not screens.

I never said don't play them. We still have those guns too. This isn't pick your favorite, we can use all of them. We'll have the Rice secondary so confused they really will look like owls when their heads start spinning.

I'm glad they started using Givens again, we did blow his RShirt year last year, so I would have expected more from him this year.
Sanders took his slot, but Givens could be a huge upgrade over Bobby Chase next year, if he improves his ability to catch

Peruna wrote:The two-TE set (Kennedy and V. Chase) was very effective Saturday against Tulsa, and I'd like to think it would be against Rice, too. Put those two big guys out there with a three-WR set, and watch the Rice defenders get the shakes!

Ironically enough me and a buddy we're complaining about the lack of TE usage we have been seeing before the Tulsa game. We got told!

Hopefully Burns comes out with a good game plan and throws some stuff in their Rice isn't prepared for.

Given's running style after the catch really helped the ponies on Saturday. With SMU rallying, and Tulsa on its heals the defense must have been frustrated and worn out by chasing him all over the place. Great call and great runs after the catch. He is fun to watch. I love his name, too. Sounds like an SEC player name.
