At the risk of losing credibility if this doesn't come to pass, I thought I would share with you some information I just received from a friend of a friend who is on the New Orleans Bowl committee. I thought you would prefer to hear it rather than not. That said, I cannot guarantee this, but it is information from what I believe to be a credible source. OK...enough of the qualifying...
It's hard for me to believe, but supposedly SMU going to a bowl game is a "done deal." C-USA officials would like to have SMU in the Fort Worth Bowl (and hopefully against TCU) and negotiations are being made in this regard. The New Orleans Bowl, however, WANTS SMU. Also, I understand SMU wants the New Orleans Bowl selection, and I understand New Orleans Bowl officials are supposedly lobbying (although I do not know who they are supposedly lobbying) to get SMU.
I would be the last one to put this out there if it was BS. I hate the Charlie Brown Football analogy happening to SMU over and over again. That said, I don't think I could've kept this to myself.
Let's beat RICE and not have to worry about whether this is true.

I can't tell you how much I hope you're right, BRStang.
But yes, let's see another win over the Owls and eliminate all questions!

I guess we'll see.
I am going to try to find out the answer on why we could be chosen at 6-6 over someone at 7-5, because it's still hard for me to believe.

We can't. If they somehow manage to shop Houston to a better bowl though, the conference could fill their spot with a 6-6 team.

It's only a done deal if we win or ECU loses; otherwise a team going 7-5 gets the nod over a 6-6 team. We can go at 6-6 if ECU loses and goes 6-6 also. If we beat Rice and go 7-5 we automatically go. I heard the same rumor about NO yesterday--worst kept secret at SMU.

If this somehow doesn't happen .... anyone know how long it takes to drive from Wyoming to Louisiana????

OK. But my friend's friend is on the New Orleans Bowl committee. And I do believe my friend.

I hope you're right. How much fun would that be? Going to New Orleans for a bowl!

The only at large birth is at the Poinsettia bowl. Utah appears to have one of those spots locked up for the MWC. ASU and Kansas are up for grabs for the at-large bid. I doubt Houston or any other team from C-USA could displace one of those schools.
BRS I don't think it's possible for a 6-6 team to get picked over a 7-5 team (NCAA rules). This week we are all NC State fans if we lose. They play at 7 so our fate may not be known until late Saturday although I think we will put this one away ourselves anyway.

ok....stewart mandel @ Cnnsi.com has us playing Mid Tenn. State in the New Orleans Bowl AND Rice playing TCU in the Armed Forces (Ft. Worth) Bowl in his weekly bowl predictions. Maybe BRStang is right?

I know. I don't know how to reconcile the info I got with this. I'm baffled.
