Is this a "must win" for PB?

If Rice turns their program around in one season and beats SMU to go to a bowl, that would be quite an indictment against Bennett, wouldn't it?
Anyone else think Orsini will let PB go if he doesn't win this game?

Can we please just table this discussion until Saturday around five PM?

Blog's right, this can wait. But yes, I think at 6-6 Bennett's job is in danger.

The Blog is correct. We will convene a meeting, to discuss the question of the before mentioned thought that relates to the status of the coaching career of said Phil Bennett. So please arrive at the SMU Alumni tent at 15 minutes after the conclusion of the contest in question to debate the following topics related to the outcome of the previously referred to game.
Only one topic will be discussed based on outcome:
- with a win - How long of an extension does Phil deserve?
- with a loss - Who will be the next head football coach at SMU?
This will be a true Algonquin Round Table where all the luminaries from Ponyfans.com will attend. However, someone will need to bring a round table and some chairs. Or we can just bring some chairs and sit in a circle. Who would like to chair this illustrious gathering?

Do we get a glass cage with Burt Reynolds, Jimmy Johnson, HHH, that cowboy guy, and the old guy?

SMU has had a lot more to overcome to get to 6-5 and possible bowl berth. Comparing these two programs and their seasons is like comparing apples and oranges. Sorry, but it's a dumb discussion. I've said it once and I'll say it a 1000 times, SMU would set themselves back 2-3 years by firing Bennett. He is one of the best things going for this program right now.

SMU would not necessarily set its program back 2-3 years by firing Bennett. It depends on who is hired. If Stoops, Brown, Spurrier, Weiss, or Carroll replaced Bennett then obviously we are in a better spot. That is not realistic. But if he is replaced by another up and comer with not alot of name recognition then maybe. I like Orsini's hire in basketball. It got alot of people talking about SMU basketball. Will the same happen in football? It is this simple....we beat Rice and Bennett stays. We lose to Rice and Bennett is likely gone.

Maybe so, but I still think it would be a mistake.

Let's can this discussion until after Saturday. We win, we go bowling. We lose, then we can discuss all this. My guess is that it will all be irrelevant.

Just a reminder to all that while in Houston on Saturday, that the You Poke It, You Own It man law will be enforced.
Sorry, all we will have is an RV and a few tents but you can bring your own Glass Man Box if you want to.

Are you kidding? He doesn't deserve an extension until he runs this current contract out on bowlgames and championships.
