How do you explain the fact that Graham is taking RICE ( ) to a F@#%ing BOWL GAME in his 1st year??? Certainly, Rice does not have less stringent standards than SMU when it comes to fb admissions...am I wrong?

How does Graham sell Rice/Houston to recruits???? That is the key, here, seems to me. How does Graham convince a bunch of lower-D1 recruits that they are winners and will cream SMU when they come to play??? Seems like that might be worth figuring out. How does Graham take a hapless offense and turn it into one of the leaders in C-USA in his first year? Seems like that might be a F%#@ing nugget of information we might like to get our hands on!!! :!: :!:

I have no answer but I will say that I have always been an advocate of building a program and not a quick fix. Look at UCF this year. How will Rice do next year and the next. Possibly very well but it is yet to be seen. Ron Meyer took 5 or 6 years to establish what he did (regardless of the technique used). And it was a solid foundation until the foundation was found to have a crack. Let's not anoint Rice as the next USC yet. It may be that we have a farther way to go than we wish, but they may not be there yet either.

This was PB's schedule, though. His team, his year, etc., etc. I agree with those (and HF Victory) who say that this year's success is not as good as last years based on schedule. We played some cupcakes this year, and lost to one of them. Next year we've got less talent and better opponents. I'm afraid PB has done what he can, and now needs to let someone else have a try. I hate the coaching carousel, but I'm looking forward to Orsini working his magic on football. The sooner, the better. Enough of this mediocrity.

Rice has been to more bowl games than we have in the past 20 years and have had more winning seasons.

Armstrong gets the snap. Armstrong fakes the hand off. Armstrong sets back. Armstrong heaves a ball as far as his pathetic arm will throw a ball. Armstrong opens his eyes. Dillard jumps over single coverage. Dillard catches the ball at its highest point using his 43 inch vertical. Dillard scores.

Last week vs ECU. Rice is down to a 4th down prayer...they once again blindly throw the ball to Dillard -- except the ECU player is in front in perfect coverage and gets 90% of an INT and the ball comes out of his hands and tips into the air. Dillard, on the way down falling from his leap, has the ball land right on his f**king chest of all places. First down. Great coaching.

That is NOT coaching. That is playmaking ability coupled with luck.

Coach Graham did not stop Tulsa -- they ran up almost 600 yards of offense on Rice, they just kept giving the ball back.

Against UAB, Rice throws a pick at the end of the game to seal the deal -- oh wait, UAB fumbles it back on the same INT.

Rice lost to f**kin Tulane. Bad.

Couple that with blowing a substantial lead vs Houston in week 1, getting a*s raped by a mediocre Florida State, beaten by a mediocre UCLA team, gettin trounced by an overrated Texas team, beating a crappy UCF team, almost blowing ANOTHER lead against UTEP w/ Palmer playing horrid...and you have a 7-5 Rice team.

Rice beat Army 48-14, who almost beat A&M and lost to Arkansas State, who we beat by 46. That was their legit win of the year.

We handed this game to Rice. We don't score on the 1, twice. We have 3943r93934934934939 holding penalties to kill returns, to kill 30 yard runs, to kill drives. We held them to a mediocre rushing performance and Armstrong kept throwing up prayers over our corners for 150 yards just with Dillard. Hell, we had 3 1st quarter turnovers and gave them a 17 point head start.

Coach Graham is NOT a great coach. Sorry. Anything above average today by the cornerbacks would have SMU bowling in Ft. Worth. The only time we got double coverage on Dillard when they threw up a prayer to him...we intercepted it....go figure.

/end rant

Congrats Rice.

I'm exempt from this argument because I have been annoited as Todd Graham gay-lover for several years now on this board-not that there is anything wrong with that. I think Phil Bennett's biggest mistake was not hiring Graham several years ago. BTW I will give attention to one interesting stat. Graham has been the Head Coach or assistant for 3 teams that either led the nation or had a +7 one year turnarounds at West Virgina, Tulsa and now Rice. I never said-as I've explained 100 times that Coaching doesn't matter. Coaching has not been the reason SMU has not won in the past. That explanation I admit doesn't hold much water in this pathetic little conference though.

And, yet, Rice is 7-5 and going bowling while we are sitting in our easy chairs in our pajamas. *Yawn.* I wish we could suck like they do.
