CoachWe need to axe Bennett before any news on our bowl status is announced. We have stood by him too long and need to make a statement that SMU is not happy with just being bowl eligible. It's been 5 years, phil - You're time has come.
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!
J-WillPB is the best thing that has happened to this program in 22 years. We bring in another coach and I promise you we will start this thing all over again. 0-12, 2-10, 4-8 maybe, and so on and so on. We have to get some players. Our offensive line could not block 3 rushing defenders and we have one receiver obviously, since Sanders has been hurt we cannot get the ball in the end zone. We all need to stop pointing fingers at PB. Bottom line, if your 11 can kick my 11 [deleted] you will win. We need players like Dilliard!!!!!!!!! That includes J-Will. If he cannot get done get his [deleted] to the side line. Coaches are only as good as their players. I know Orsini has someone in mind, but who the hell wouild want this job!! Especially getting hired by and ex Cowboy ticket taker. Leave PB the hell alone and let's get some [deleted] players in here. Stop dreaming!!!
just for arguments sake-whose players were they on the field today. During Bennett's tenure NTSU, Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, Houston have all bypassed Bennett to go to a Bowl. We aren't playing the Titans these days. I agree its a talent issue-I said from Day 1 that a lot of people were really overestimating the quality of our offensive linemen. Really a lot of leftovers in that groupl. We've had several better lines at SMU even before 10 years ago. It is a talent issue though.

Football is football. One thing PB talked about is getting the test scores down some. We need some big dumb [deleted] linemen. We have this little soft smart somebitches who cannot block. Check the test scores for the school you just mentioned. SMU has a lot of work to do in a lot of areas and Orsini is gonna take us to NCAA II before long, We are not even close to getting top notch players. Every player we have has overachieved or they are like J-Will and suppose to be to small for the bigger schools!! We need change and it does not start with PB. It starts at the top!!
Re: J-Will
do you have the NFL network? Watch it this spring when they have the specials on the combine. Watch & see which positions usually have the highest scores on the aptitude tests. I believe OL is 2nd only to QB.
Re: J-Will
well, dude, you better get right with reality real fast: dr. turner ain't going nowhere (if you even know who that is), as you would say, so you better suit up yourself and GET OUT ON THE FIELD YOU SOMEBITCH!
you know you're preaching to the choir on this issue. But it is so clear in the offensive line. I've said for years that there are literrally hundreds and hundreds of Texas kids who 6-4+ 250+ and All-Conference OLM in High School that can't play a lick. Too many shirly's on this board oh-and ahh everytime we sign a big body in the offensive line-but the truth is we have very little quality.

I understand what you are saying, but big, good offensive linemen are like good 7 ft basketball players, there are only a few good ones. We don't have any of them. We need big dumb thug [deleted] 300 lbs. Put any of our other QB's back there and we are possibly 4-8. With a QB damn near dead!!! And the test they give at the combine is the same for everyone, and nobody give a [deleted] what the linemen score. This is only a test!!!
Re: J-Will
I do agree with you there. During the Tulsa game, I complimented Rich Phillips for being able to repeatedly say, "Willis, rolling to his right," while resisting the urge to state the truth, which was, "Willis, running for his life..."
Re: J-Will
--- C'mon BigMomma, you're arguing with yourself. Rice is playing with the same SAT guys as we are. YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

This is right on the mark. You can pick apart the play calling and a few other things about the team, but the fact is the team was better than last year's team. Last year's team was better than the one the year before. Things are headed in the right direction, even if it's not as fast as anyone would like. It's easy to say we should ditch the coach and get someone new, but it's far more difficult to say who you would bring in that would take this group of players and do better with it. I don't think Bennett will be fired. I think Orsini wants to get a full year under his own belt at SMU before he tinkers with this thing.

Re: CoachWe have a talent problem, no doubt. Of course we all wanted to be Conference USA champions this year; however, it isn't happening. What we can look back on today is lost opportunities. UTEP - 3 point loss to a weaker than usual (past 3 years) team. In this game, we played without our up and coming QB and nearly pulled it out. Had the problems that led to Willis' suspension been addressed when he brought them to the staff's attention, 7-5.
Next up, Houston. Dont even try to attribute this loss to a lack of talent. Poor coaching and strategy in the second half allowed this dominating 1st half performance to fall short. Take that back: 8-4. Finally, Rice. We clearly had some problems today with the o-line, etc. but the play calling was just plain awful in the second half. Not only did we watch a third game slip away, but our entire season went with it. And UNT...well? The notion that a new coach would mean starting over is ridiculous. If Orsini makes another move like he did for the B-ball program, SMU will see brighter days as soon as next year. Bennet went 0-12 4 years ago and has improved, but last year we won 5 games only because one of Bennett's 2 QB's suffered a season-ending injury. Up until then, we would switch QB's, forget that you can run the ball in the 4th quarter, and watch Eckert air out 2-3 INT's to let games slip away in the 4th. This year we win 6 games and some of you want to give him another year? Where are we now? Bowl eligible? I'd prefer 10-2. It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!
