Reason for displeasure

Postby mustangxc » Sun Nov 26, 2006 12:39 am

Just curious as the primary reason most of you are upset. Is it the head coach, coordinators, loss today, loss to UNT, SMU's policies? What would you change if you could only change one thing about SMU football?
I would go back and win the UNT game. All things being equal I don't think we would have a fire Phil Bennett thread. I still say give Phil 1 more year. I want to see him succeed! Most great coaches are not overnight success stories!

I would go back to our 80's uniforms for one thing. Suspending Willis earlier this season sure didn't help. God, I'm so pissed!

One thing to change you say? Change the test scores to get into SMU. We need football players that are students, not students that are football players. We have a sideline full of students.

I'm warning you -don't burst their little bubble or they'll come after you. May I suggest SMU needs to do everything necessary to compete on an even basis with its natural and traditional rivals within the limits of NCAA rules

They have to bring [deleted] to get [deleted] baby. Nobody ever avocated cheating. That is crazy. NCAA sports is a big business, we need to get in on the business. Winning is the key!! We need players!! We have enough students that do nothing but go to class. We need football players playing football. Example one: 20 hours of football per week plus 15 hours of class and 2 hours of study hall. That is more than some of you work in a week. We are asking a lot from these kids and not giving a damn thing but complaints. The coaches are working 15-16 hour days. Stay in the stands and shut up!!

Big daddy has hit the nail on the head. I guess this is what Stallion has talked about all along. The light is now on for me. Any change in coaching at this point is just reshuffling the deck. Basically we were a few plays away from winning the conference championship. Our players gave everything they had. If we had better players it would not have come down to a few plays here and there. We should be dominating our opposition.

a few plays away, yes. But only in that position because of PB's strategy and play calling with a lead. XC is right, most coaches arent overnight success stories, but do we need 6 years? 7? lets just honor the contract and see if we can do something before 2010...
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

I'm upset because:

1) SMU lost to Texas Tech;
2) SMU lost to North Texas;
3) SMU lost to UTEP;
4) SMU lost to ECU;
5) SMU lost to UofH;
6) SMU lost to Rice.

But I'm REALLY upset because OC Rusty Burns can't call a play to get the ball across the goal line within the red zone not once against Rice - but TWICE! :evil:

I have thought a lot about our playing calling on the goal line. Two times at Rice and one time on 4th down against Houston. Does Burns call the plays that he does because our O-line doesn't run block well, when the other team knows that is what we are going to do?
