What ever happened to the Fullback in this offense?

I do not have enough fingers and toes to count how many times I have screamed for a fullback to be in the game on 3-1 and 4-1...
What really angers me the most is that we did not do everything we could to win this game..6 plays on their goaline and NO fullback, NO jumbo package, NO 3 TE formation and 6 pts instead of 14 and a WIN...
I can't remember what coach said it but it is famous, "If we can't get one yard, we don't deserve to win"
If we would have lined up w/ 2 TE and McKinney at FB and got stopped 6 times then we definately deserved not to win.. But we half arsed the goalline opportunities and I would love to hear Rusty Burns reason for not ever, ever using a fullback..
Since none of us ponyfans have the opportunity to figure out this question, I have emailed Kate Hairiopoulous (sp) and asked her to ask this question at the press conf... Will she do it, I don't know, but hopefully she will..
We deserve to know why Burns continually chooses Finesse over power football on short yardage situations.

Because hes an idiot. I hate the pistol formation. When you line up in shotgun on a goal situation, you risk losing lots of yards...
By the way, can anyone tell me what plays were run on the last first and goal situation and out of what formation?
Also, how did Martin get taken down at the 1 freaking yardline!!! come on!

did anyone notice that on one of those last goaline situations SMU had American Superhero Zac Sledge (5-11, 190) as the slot/blocking back in motion. As for Martin he has never has been one of the fastest backs on the field. The faster guys just ran him down. I'm surprised he got as far as he did.

Don't you think that his lousy hamstring had something to do with his speed?

Absolutely.
And Sledge is a pretty good blocker, especially for a guy who's not exactly huge. He's tough and strong and more than willing to stick his nose in there.

Oh that's just asinine. You don't leave V. Chase and McKinney on the sideline and ask a 5-11, 190 pounder to block a 260+ pounder at the one yard line even if he is an American Superhero. If that's the explanation then count me among those who think a change in at least the offensive coordinator is needed. 285 yards per game Total Offense in CUSA is unacceptable.

Still don't know why we ran no plays with a lead blocker out of the 6 down at the 1. Bring in Fitzgerald like last year or let Kennedy be the lead blocker or just run a qb sneak. Something, anything, that looked like it might be able to pick up a yard.

I think the terms "fullback" and "jumbo package" are a couple of those things about football that Bennett has forgotten. Remember, he has forgotten more about football than most people ever knew.

They were in the Jumbo package both times at the 1. Kennedy + Vincent is that package -- we never have 3 TE's in the game.

wow.. were you there? do you know anything about football? have you ever watched Texas, aTm, Ohio st, or michigan..
Jumbo package defination = 2 TE's and oh yah a fullback.. we should have 3 TE's in.. we have four that are 6-4 245+... spearman, kennedy, chase, and mckinney.. mckinney is the smallest at 6-4 245

i agree, sledge is good blocking out on db's but not on short yardage against lb's... should of had fitz back there... we need a new OC not a new Head Coach... Todd Dodge? and make sure Riley is here in 2008

we dont have a true fullback on our roster. We tried to get Richuel Massey to be a fullback and he transferred (cant blame him). The spread offesne is not going to help recruit any fullbacks, and I dont know if we'd even want one. Andrew McKinney has been used back there (kind of like how the Cowboys used Anthony Fasano earlier)...to not have him out there and Sledge instead, well...Stallion pointed out the absurdity.
