Does any body know what a sine wave is I know our buddies at Rice
do.

Problem is, if we fire Bennett, it says we keep firing our really good
coaches at the top of the sine wave at 5 or 6 wins since we didn't win the
national championship those years. Then we have to go downhill to the
bottom of the wave to take care of the learning curve of a new coaching
staff, and players that don't want to play for the new staff. See 0 -12.

We got our wittle hearts broke, and didn't go to a bowl game

Will the below look like our record of firing coaches at the top SMU's sine
wave of 5 to 6 wins the last 18 years, if the potential Copeland THE
SECOND fires Bennett

Copeland was a new hire JERK to fire Rossley given our situation

This Sine Wave is a bunch of garbage!!! We haven't had a really good coach at SMU since the death penalty. We continue to hire guys who don't have proven success on the D1 level as a head coach. It's time to spend the money and hire someone with some D1 success.

Furthermore, our pain isn't simply because we didn't go to a bowl this year. It's because our team has been losing for twenty years.

Money talks and good coaches will walk, right onto the SMU campus for the correct amount of money. Pony up!!$$ SMU

i agree this whole sine wave theory is complete crap .... is Mike Ditka still available?

2. I think that Forrest Gregg, former SMU All-America, who led the NFL
Bengals to the Super Bowl is the BEST coach we've had since the DP
which blows your knee jerk statement away

3. Tom Rossley was an NFL caliber OC before he came to SMU with
Forrest Gregg, and resumed that position with the Green Bay
Packers for a number of years after he was let go by Copeland I.

I don't see a generic sine or cosine wave form in our record. You could generate a set of equations that would accommodate for the wild fluctuations in amplitude but I've forgotten too much to be able to do it this late at night. I think the sine theory needs to pass quietly into the night.

We had a coach who led a team to the Super Bowl but had 3 wins at SMU. We had a coach who was nationally recognized as an offensive star. We had a coach with solid 1-AA head coaching experience and Division 1 BCS assistant status. We had a coach with solid coordinator experience at a successful BCS program. Yet all have had losing records. The reason perhaps has nothing to do with coaching ability or even recruiting ability. It has to do with having a University that players feel good about coming to. We have an education department in its infancy which will help solve the transferable credits problem and the "athlete friendly major" problem to some degree. We cannot and never will be able to admit the players that other schools like UT, TT, ECU, UH and A&M admit. So we start out with a handicap similar to Duke. However, Wake Forest has a great season every now and then. Miami has a great season most of the time. ND has a great season most of the time. Orsini has spent time at ND, so he should be able to figure out what they do that we are not doing. Obviously ND is an iconic school to which almost every catholic aspires to attend so they have a pretty large recruiting tool (CYO, Priests). However, even ND has had problems in recent years competitively because they can't admit just anybody (note losses to Michigan and USC). USC is a Methodist University. They seem to get some great players. Whether they are buying players has yet to be shown. But if Orsini could look at USC, Stanford, Notre Dame and glean from those schools an idea of what we're lacking, it would go a long way to ending the wave.
