Bennett's Record 17-41/THAT'S A FACT!

Coach Bennett seems like a great guy and I think it's great the players love him. The fact of this matter is his record at SMU is 17-41. UNT fired their coach who has a record of 42-64. Dickey's record includes more than one bowl appearance. If UNT can see it's time for a change considering their level of recent success in comparison to what that University offers potential student athletes. SMU Deserves so much more!

I know it's difficult to once again face the fear of having to find a new Head coach but it's time SMU. We can either take a chance by letting Bennett go and bringing in a New Name Coach, or we can keep Bennett only to face the same disappointment next year. Let's put it this way a new coach can do no worse.

Hey don't laugh-that's probably the second best career record of all 4 SMU coaches since the Death Penalty except for the great Mike Cavan.

Spot a trend. We've sucked under all head coaches since the Death Penalty. Each of these coaches were fired because they weren't successful in coaching all this "great talent". Maybe its not the coaching. I do know Phil Bennett has less excuse for not succeeding than any other coach on that list. He had the easiest road of all these coaches with better facilities, lower academic standards and a softer schedule.

We had enough talent on the field this year to have a winning season! This was the most talented team we've had since the death penalty. Therefore the failure must be placed on the coaches. Bennett did a good job of elevating the talent level but the results aren't there.

Here's an interesting sidebar for everyone: 'the great Mike Cavan' was in the 8:30 a.m. congregation at Highland Park United Methodist Church last Sunday.

All I know is that when Mike Cavan was fired all the cheerleaders on here were saying we had such great talent that we were sure to go bowling. Phil Bennett said we would challenge for conference titles. I was just about the ONLY one who loudly proclaimed that Cavan had laid a big fat egg in his last 2 recruiting classes. Bennett didn't start whispering desperation about Cavan's "horrible recruiting" to his henchmen on this board until he was well on his way to the worst season in SMU football. I'm telling you again that if SMU doesn't improve its recruiting this year we are going to have difficulty maintaining our historically high mediocre football team. Luckily we are playing the softest conference schedule ever-BY FAR.

Cavan did have some good talent in the year before his firing. Karon Riley transferred and was a sack leader in the Big 10. Corey Brewer transferred as well. Tellis Redmond withdrew his commitment when Brewer left. They all had a great run at U of Minnesota. Their reason for leaving was a lack of faith in the staff.

Yes, that is true, but PB also had to build this team up from a pretty low level of talent...one year at a time. And as you know it is pretty damn hard to recruit to a losing program.

**with Tom Rossley's seniors...and Cavan tried to screw that up. In fact he did by not figuring out how to beat a 0-10 TCU team... it couda, shoulda been a 7-4 record for that SMU team.

And it was all down hill from there.

ummm....with stallion. i'm gonna assume all of us are intelligent SMU fans. if we were running a business like a McDondals and had what we thought was a good business plan but it lost money for 20 straight years and we changed the manager of the McDonalds every 5 years i am sure that all of us after hiring a consultant would find out that the manager was not the problem

I agree with Stallion. I'm still waiting for someone to post the transcript of an early PB press conference that says, "you're looking at 4 or 5 years," which he claims to have said to Turner & Copeland.

Maybe he did, I guess my brain's stuck on "competing for championships right away."
