From AP, 11/27/06
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Arizona State fired coach Dirk Koetter, who led the team to a bowl the last three seasons but rarely beat the best in the Pac-10. He was 40-33 in six years.
The Sun Devils completed a 7-5 regular season with a 28-14 victory over rival Arizona on Saturday in Tucson, clinching their third consecutive postseason berth. He went 4-2 against the Wildcats.
Koetter's dismissal comes less than a year after athletic director Lisa Love gave him a contract extension through the 2009 season.

Boohoo, she fired him for not taking them to the "next level." Most schools I think would kill to go to 3 bowls in a row.. *cough cough horny toads* Dirk Koetter is a great coach.. I'm sure he's on Orsini's list of candidates.. if he has one.

This is the same idiot that had the situation where he named a named senior Sam Keller starting quarterback after a lengthy battle between Keller and sophomore Rudy Carpenter. Two days later, Koetter suddenly changed course and announced that Carpenter would be promoted to the starting position. Yeah, this is exactly what we need here.

Don't be an idiot. There were reasons Keller got demoted, and he then threw a hissy fit and transferred to Nebraska.
Koetter has a WINNING record as a HC and built up Boise St... what does Bennett have again?

Exactly how does commenting on Koetter make me an idiot. If that was not one of the stupidest things done by a coach in the public eye with a player then I truly apologize for calling him an idiot. Maybe we should look at this record against ranked teams, like 2-17 or maybe remember that we made Boise State into an okay program but that he was not there for their greatest success. In fact, Boise State coaches do not appear to have fared real well after leaving the blue turf behind.

You're an idiot for making a foolish statement about the QB situation.. I'm sure you don't know the facts. I'm not advocating Koetter.. he's an offensive guru, and it would be nice to have an offensive guy to take full advantage of Willis, and to bring in offensive talent from here on out, but ASU has never been known for its defensive prowess and I imagine Orsini is looking for coach that can bring more to the table. Btw.. Koetter 2-20 against ranked teams actually.. but wait, what are Bennett's stats again? Has Bennett coached anyone drafted into the NFL? Does he having a winning record? Any conference championships? IM JUST SAYING.

Houston Nutt's done OK. Remember, he was the one that built Boise State into what it has become. Don't judge Dan Hawkins at Colorado too quick.

The whole QB situation played out in the national press. The guy lost a whole lotta cred nationally and locally with the whole fiasco. This was not a minor problem. I am not a PB backer either. I feel the guy just does not know how to manage a team. Play calling, clock management, and personnel usage issues leave me leaning to replace the man.

Koetter was canned because of the qb fiasco not because of the 7-5 record. Carpenter was just not ready to take over this team because he did not show the flashes he had last season. He didn't show the AD that he could manage the game and situation properly and when Keller left, ASU was stuck with Rudy. Koetter mismanaged the situation and was cut because of that.
