What could save Bennett

Sorta like when we were waiting to see whether ECU lost...

If I were Orsini, the one thing in my mind that could break for Bennett would be whether I could get someone in here (with all the coaching vacancies) that would be an upgrade from Bennett. Hopefully, Orsini waits until he has some good leads on candidates willing to come here b/f he makes the announcement on Bennett. Regardless, he would have to make the decision this week.

If Bennett stays, I feel it would be in a caretaking role until we could find someone next year. If, for some reason, he does have to stay another year, I think the fallback position is to somehow get Todd Dodge on the coaching staff. And, of course, a new OC.

A magic time machine that would allow us to go back and make sure Justin doesn't attend that party the night before leaving for UTEP. We win that game finish 7-5 and Bennett keeps his job. Unfortunately, he would just get fired next season after finishing 5-7. 8)

Actually, it turns out that a 7-5 record would not have guaranteed a bowl game. Five other CUSA schools finished with 7 wins or better, and there are exactly five slots. Maybe we would have been picked and Rice left home if we were both 7-5 and we lost at Rice, or maybe we would not have been. If I were a bowl official and saw the respective Rice and SMU turnouts on Saturday, I would not hesitate to have picked SMU, but ... you never know.

Willis should have thought about that one and the consequences. UTEP and UNT - what a difference that would have made.

Keep dreaming. That will never happen in the next 30 years. I know what some of you want, but bottom line, this is as good as it gets for SMU.
