I personally am not seeing the "progress" that some others are.

and this trend will continue if we are continually having coaching turnovers

That is eye-opening. I really like Bennett but I think he is gone.

I think this post is very telling of our "progress". I would also like to contribute something from a previous post I made which shows that just bc you change coaches does not mean you will suck, as som people try to claim. Also, I think it shows that coaches don't always need a 6th season for the possibility of their first winning record.
Art Briles: Bowl apperances in 3 of 4 seasons. 25-23 in 3 seasons.
Paul Johnson: Bowl apperances in 4 of 5 seasons. 28-21 record in 5 seasons.
Steve Kragthorpe: Bowl apperances in 3 of 4 seasons. 28-22 record in 4 seasons. Before Kragthorpe Tulsa has had not had a winning season since 1991, over 10 years. His record in his first 3 seasons resulted in more wins than the previous 7 for Tulsa and their conference chamionship last season was the schools first since 1985.
Todd Graham: Bowl apperance in first season at Rice finishing 7-5 during regular season. Including losses against UT, FSU, and UCLA (three opponents better than anyone we played this season whether these are down years for them or not). This is despite coming off a 1-10 season last year. Rice had not been to a bowl since 1961 until this season.
Phil Bennett: 0 bowl apperances in 5 seasons. 17-41 record in 5 seasons at SMU. Yet to record a winning season.

More stats which show we are pretty much right where we were last season or worse considering our patty cake schedule this year.
Record, where SMU ranked out of 117 D1a college programs, and OOC games:
Last season:
5-6
Total defense - 70 Scoring defense- 57 Total offense- 104 Scoring offense- 94
Baylor, TCU, A&M
This season:
6-6
Total defense - 76 Scoring defense- 75 Total offense- 79 Scoring offense- 41
Tech, Ark St, UNT, SHSU

The question is: Can we upgrade at coach? If you are a coach, which jobs attract you? NC State, the U, Alabama, or SMU...

If I'm a Div-1A head coach I know I only have a select number of years to turn the program around or I'm the curb. I can't see how that is a very exciting prospect for any potential head coach. Either work magic or get the hell out.

This is not to cast a vote either way about Coach Bennett's future. However:
* The records (overall and in conference and in non-conference) have include consideration of the talent each coach inherited.
* In Coach Cavan's tenure, bowl eligibility was not defined by six wins.
* The win over a nationally-ranked team came under Coach Bennett, not Coach Cavan.
* The 15-game streak came in part (not only, but at least in part) because of the talent Coach Bennett inherited.
You're right in your statement that continually turning over the coaching staff as a kneejerk reaction is the wrong approach. Every coach in the country is replaceable, depending on who the replacement is. Until that can be determined, nobody should be rushing to can anyone.

Based on your posts on this board you know absolutely nothing about Texas.

you're right absolutely nothing! i've followed texas for a long time, and the only posts that i have said anything about Texas was from the UT-A&M game saying that the last hit on Colt was not what you were claiming it was...
