Interesting.

Maybe to see if something is ever going to take place, someone should call the AD's office daily or every other day and ask to speak with Mr. Orsini. If the caller is told, "I'm sorry; he's out of town today..." respond with , "oh really? where?" If he's there the whole time, no change. Pay attention to where they say he is.

Before some of you respond, this was typed in jest. Which means I'm not serious, and yes I know they wouldn't just say where he is/if he's there.

Sounds positive to me.

"...people just seem to be reading too much into our meetings.
..."

If that isn't an understatement, nothing is!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I must surmise that Bennett is being retained.

I read it as he is still doing his evaluation and hasn't made any decisions whether or not PB will be the coach next year, a new OC is on the way, etc.

I love how he makes the point about coming out to the game tonight and that coach D and the basketball program will be evaluated at the end of the season.

Orsini has a head on his shoulders. He knows what he is doing. He will be bring back PB for another crack at it with the new Redshirt class...

i read that and think he is just letting Phil save a little face by not pulling the trigger immediately. Orsini wants to bring his own guy in here to coach and now he can do it with most people agreeing with him. It will happen, and very soon. No way is Bennett going to stay.

You need to look no further than our Basketball team or Rice's football team to see how quickly the "right" coach can generate enthusiam and turn things around.

Meanwhile, how many schools committed to winning have already fired coaches for sub-par or average seasons? Orsini has had a whole season to evaluate the program. We are 6-6 with an easy non-conference schedule and playing in an easy conference. Make a decision. He stays or he is gone. But don't game play me with words in a blog. He owes all of the fans who have sat through some of the worst Div. 1-A football in the last ten to twenty years more than cutesty word play on a blog. I though allowing Bennett to stay after a winless season was his second chance. Now does he get a third chance after this season? Make a decision Orsini but don't play word games with me or the rest of us who have stayed around to endure SMU football.

I think he stays. Orsini chose to make that post. It would have been much easier to get rid of PB and then post about the new future for SMU football. I think PB derves to stay. I think the general SMU public believes that as well. People on the outside are shocked that SMU is even considering firing PB. I am not saying that they are well-informed, but public perception is definitely changing under PB and that can be very powerful. He needs one more year to break through and I truly believe if he goes we will be revisiting this discussion with a new coach in 5 more years and I believe our record will be much, much worse. In sum...keep PB.

If he was going to keep him wouldn't his blog have said "Bennett will be our coach next year." Instead he said that this is a typical evaluation process and gave him no strong vote of confidence from my perspective.

That's true, the blog didn't sound like he had made a decision either way. I just agree with a lot of what perunapony said, and I'd like to see Coach Bennett stay.
