Our former conference is poised to have 2 12-win teams this year.

Boise St. is 12-0 and likely headed to the Fiesta Bowl.

Hawaii is 10-2 with a winnable (but also loseable) home game against Oregon State, then a home bowl game against a middle of the PAC 10 team (maybe Arizona or ASU).

The bottom of the conference is abysmal, but it's the flag bearers that get a conference noticed, and those 2 are doing a great job for the WAC. CUSA has been a more well-rounded conference, and on average I would say the teams are a little better, but nobody stands out and I think that hurts us when it comes to TV contracts, bowl contracts, etc.

Hopefully in the next couple of years we will see a 10-12 game winner in each division of CUSA and we can rebuild the name some. Even more hopefully, SMU can start winning 10-12 games...

Our record vs the Sun Belt is what is killing us. Both our loss to UNT and Houston's loss to ULL were terrible losses. As bad as our loss to UNT was, it is even more troubling to see the likely conference champ lose to a chump team in the worst conference in the country. Hopefully Rice can beat Troy/MTSU if not the loss to Rice will be all the more enfuriating!

Whatever happened to the mighty Fresno State?

They started requiring that players also be students, thereby putting a huge dent in their pool of recruits.

A "friend" of a "friend" of my housekeeper has a connection to a high up official at TCU who relayed to them that the Toads are considering leaving the Mountain West conference and moving to the WAC since that conference has the best chance of landing an automatic BCS berth.

It may be a rumor, but I believe it.

WAC has worse shot then MWC. Although betting against the froggies to leave their conference is never a smart bet. They are a perpetually unhappy group that has an incorrect view of their place in the football world.

How can you say that when a WAC team will be invited to a BCS game this very year? MWC is probably a better conference all-around, but they are both generally at the same tier. Higher than CUSA for sure.

I would take CUSA yr in and yr out over WAC easily - they are not traditionally a stong conference. And being west is a big negative for all but Pac 10 - Nobody pays any attention to either WAC or MWC. Neither has BCS shot (and by the way - there is no "expansion" of the BCS beyond those that are in it now anyway - you can wait forever on that one). Only a lawsuit breaks up that cartel - they ain't going to flog themselves just because we wish they would.

I'd take 12 wins in teh WAC any year over 6 wins in CUSA

The Frogs haven't tried the SBC. That would be my bet. They're to football conferences as Elizabeth Taylor is to husbands.

I heard that TCU is considering leaving the MWC to become an independent so that if they win 10 games they will get automatic inclusion into the BCS just like Notre Dame does. Makes sense. They're on about the same level.
