his son's a pretty good QB; NW State or SHSU here we come... It's starting to look like the best move for SMU may well have been no move at all...depending on how programs at Tulsa and Tulane deal with change.

He'd be playing backup to Rhett Bomar at SHSU. Rickey Joe Meeks left NW State so that might not be a bad move. Keeps 'em in Louisiana.

Scelfo's quote after the USM game is still hilarious.

Let's hope they hire Rusty Burns as head coach.

"I am embarrassed to be the coach of that offense," Tulane coach Chris Scelfo said. "Give Southern Miss credit, but for us to go out there and pee down our legs like we did for 60 minutes on offense was embarrassing."

Great quote. I didn't realize Rusty Burns was calling their plays as well.

Maybe SMU can find some room for Coach Schumann-probably not as a coordinator but the guy can coach.

Coach Schumann has a great defensive mind. He always had the players in the right places to make plays when he was at SMU before.

I'm a big fan of Coach Schumann...unfortunately he won't be coming here.

If Slater and/or Johnson really are transferring, might Coach Scelfo's post-Katrina friendship with Coach Bennett convince his son to try SMU? Great school, thin depth chart at the position, etc.... just a thought.

Coach Scelfo guided that program through a situation no team in college football history ever has had to deal with. Canning him this quickly is classless. I don't know what would be the acceptable amount of time, but Coach Scelfo deserved better than this.

I think he's regarded as a good coach, though. Hopefully he'll land on his feet quickly.

This is the best "new coach" idea I have read this week.

Here's the story. Does this sound kind of familiar to anyone? Except for the average attendance in the 20,000's, the bowl game appearances, and the winning season records.

I agree with everything you say. He easily could have quit last year, gone for another job, but he stayed there with those kids and got them to play hard (including, of course, in their win at SMU .... dammit). He deserved MUCH better than this.
