BIG QUESTION FOR NEXT YEAR?

I fully agree with the decision to keep Phil for one more year. The question, however, is will he "have" to make 7 or more wins next year to keep his job. If we win 6 games, but weasel into a bowl bid, would that be good enough? As pointed out in an earlier thread, the schedule looks a lot more difficult next year. Will this be taken into consideration in the review process? What happens if Willis goes down and PB doesn't have a qualified backup since Slater and EJ are evidentally transferring?

Forget bowls, the big question is how is our D going to stop...um, anybody.

In all probability.....YES!
(especially if we won the bowl game)
Publically most will say "No",
but do any of us really believe if SMU
gets to a bowl game for the first time
in over 20 years they are gonna fire
the coach that gets us there?

Insane you are probably right, if we "weasel" our way in with 6 wins and win the bowl game, there is no way they can fire Bennett then . . . but i think 7+ wins is possible. Even with the more difficult schedule.

The schedule might be a bit more difficult but keep in mind that there will be an extra bowl bid for CUSA next year. If this season had been played out next year, we'd be in a bowl right now. If we get to six wins (at least) odds are we are going bowling.

are you sure about that? I believe two bowls have an agreement to share 1 spot.

Next year we are scheduled to rotate out of the Ft. Worth Bowl and into the Hawaii and Texas bowls, for a total of 6. However, those agreements frequently change during the offseason.

Right now we do have a big bowl advantage over all non BCS conferences. I'm concerned though that it will be important to see schools like Tulsa, Houston and Rice send relatively big crowds to their bowls or these bowls may take a second look at the situation when the next contract is up.

since CUSA has the added bowl tie in next year, a 6-6 record should get PB and co. in a bowl game....
