It's amazing how similar PB's and Ron Meyer's records are through 5 seasons:

Meyer: 1976 - 3 wins, 1977 - 4 wins, 1978 - 4 wins and 1 tie, 1979 - 5 wins, 1980 - 8 wins

Bennett: 2002 - 3 wins, 2003 - 0 wins, 2004 - 3 wins, 2005 - 5 wins, 2006 - 6 wins

And Meyer paid his players. PB's been able to recruit without paying handouts.

The difference is Meyer won 3 more games and went to a bowl in his 5th year when going to a bowl meant something. And he coached in a tougher conference.

By that remark, I guess going to a bowl this year would have meant nothing. So we probably did the right thing in losing to Rice so we could skip all of the headaches of travel, accommodations, etc.

No, going to a bowl would have meant something to us because we haven't done it in 23 years. And it would have give us great pub and a boost in recruiting.

I was just trying to make a point that comparing Meyer to Bennett is like comparing .........apples to oranges.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I sure hope the Colts don't hire Bennett away from us. Imagine what Bennett could do with Peyton Manning.

How much would Peyton love that hard count play?

The Texans should run that play. Given the state of the Texans O-line, I am not sure Carr could tell the difference.

That hard count thing is so bush league...

I swear Bennett used that call to convert on almost all of our third and short situations.

Give him credit--It's the most effective thing in his playbook in that situation.

It's just so weak [deleted].

But I have to admit it was amusing to see Tulane or UAB fall for it three or four times in a row.

At our stage in SMU's football "life", going to a bowl means something. But, honestly, just how many bowls are there? How many teams participate (ya, I know 2 x's). It seems that if you are in the top 50-60 teams you now go to a bowl. Does it really mean anything, how many schools lose money by particpating? Would we really want to go to the "new name" bowl Miami is going to in Boise, Idaho Dec 23rd?

Just a tiny bit difference in the competition level too.
