Yes i know this has nothing to do with SMU but Dillard, only a sophomore, leads the nation in TD catches and as already set Rice Career records...

I dont remember this kid having an impact in last years game but after watching him pull a hat trick on us Saturday, what is yalls take on this kid winning this years 'most outstanding receiver award'???

Unfortunately, I don't think he has a real shot, because he is a heck of a player, but I don't get a vote.

I just believe that since he plays for Rice in CUSA, voters will go with a more well known WR.

Aldrige and Dilliard both made the 2006 Stallion's All-American Team. Heck every WR we played made the All-American team. I was going to check into this but I bet if you checked the performance of our opponents top WR this year that kid probably averaged 7 catches for 135 yards and 2 TDs.

You do get to vote...I'd take C.J. over Dillard but Smardja (sp) cant hold Dillards jock...

Every time I turned on a game in which TT was playing the announcers would talk about how sporadic and inconsistant Robert Johnson was as a receiver. We sure did not allow that to happen.

Jarett Dillard - 82 rec, 1176 yds, 20 td
Calvin Johnson - 59 rec, 899 yds, 13 td
Jeff Samardzija - 70 rec, 958 yds, 11 td

Close... here are the numbers for the leading receiver by yards for our opponents.

No Yds TD Avg Long
15 139 2 9.3 23
9 132 0 14.7 33
4 56 0 14 18
2 99 1 49.5 69
9 100 1 11.1 21
4 69 1 17.3 29
6 62 0 10.3 20
13 138 1 10.6 30
10 62 0 6.2 13
5 59 0 11.8 25
13 120 1 9.2 19
6 145 3 24.2 46

Totals:
No Yds TD Avg Long
96 1181 10 12.3 69

Averages:
No Yds TD
8 98.4 0.8

This theoretical player would have led the nation in catches, ranked 4th in yards, and tied for 15th in TDs.

Only 4th in yardage? Guess that prevent defense was effective after all. 6 players with 9 or more catches, 7 players with 99+ yards.

Actually 7 with 99+ yards

SMUshouldbebowling is right: Dillard will be hurt by the fact that he plays for Rice, and in C-USA.

I do have a vote, and voted for Calvin Johnson. He's the best college WR I've seen in years.

Agreed. No one can touch that kid.

There's talk that the Raiders want him, if they pick high enough.
How good would a quarterback look -- ANY quarterback -- with Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Jerry Porter (if he can pull his head out) and Ronald Curry running around? I think I could even complete a pass to that crew.
