For those that didnt watch The Home Depot College Football Awards, Brady Quinn was awared the Maxwell Trophy for the Most Outstanding player in college football. Im sorry but Quinn got this out of sympathy because Troy Smith was better then him.

I never understand when one person wins the Maxwell but a different person wins the Heisman ... especially when it involves QBs...

Troy Smith took home the Walter Camp (Player of the Year) and the Davey O'Brien (Best QB) meaning on Saturday he will most likely will get the Heisman Trophy as well.

I dont like when different players get the same basic award ... this happenend a few years back when Jason White lost the Heisman to Leinhart after winning the Maxwell and O'Brien...

Anyways congrats to Daniel Sepulveda from Baylor for collecting Hardware too.

Theres the complete list for this years winners.

The only one we should care about is that Darren McFadden of Arkansas won the Doak Walker.

Very happy for Darren. Congratulations. Had a great season. And remember, he missed the USC game.

Doak Walker Award should have gone to the Wolfe kid at Northern Illinois or Steve Slaton, but I don't have a real problem with McFadden. Should have been expected, since it seems to be a regional award (hello, Trevor Cobb!), but there's no reason to care about that any more than any other award.

Troy Smith wins the Best QB and Best Player, but doesn't get the Player of the Year award? Not sympathy -- that's Notre Dame's limitless PR/marketing budget at work. If Quinn wins the Heisman, they should abolish that award altogether (actually, they should have done that after Gino Toretta won it). Smith, McFadden, Colt Brennan, Slaton, Ray Rice (Rutgers), Calvin Johnson and Marshawn Lynch all should get more votes than Quinn. They won't, but they should.

Agreed...Wolfe is a senior and i think his hardwork over his years in CFB should have been rewarded...Darren is only a soph just like Slaton and Johnson. I still dont mind McFadden winning. I will be looking foward to the Doak Walker Banquet and meeting this young man.

I do however still think that Quinn won the award out of pity because most voters know he was not going to win the Heisman after a bad performance against Michigan and the USC game didnt help either.

I was a senior once and I worked hard, and no one gave me an award for it. If you want to talk sympathy awards, it would be giving one to someone just because they are a senior. Argue the points of greatness between any of the candidates but do not argue due to what year of school they are in.

Agreed.

Now on the topic of this thread. Do you really think voters picked Quinn because they felt bad that he wouldn't win the Heisman? That is one of the most ridiculous and stupid conclusions I have ever heard.

Yes...it doesnt make sense to have these awards and not give them out to the guy that deserves it. How can Smith win the Camp, O'Brien, and Offensive POY and not win the Maxwell. That doesnt make sense to me. Someone want to make me understand that.

And as for Wolfe, the kid overachieved in at MAC school and put up monstrous numbers early in the season and finished the season strong, He is one of the reason that his team is bowling against TCU. HE put up over 200 yds against THE ohio state uni.

I'm not saying the vote makes sense. But thinking that they voted for him out of sympathy seems pretty far fetched to me.
