Why do they quit?

Postby bean95 » Sat Mar 22, 2003 8:53 pm

Well, today, the first day of pads, another Mustang and Defensive Tackle quit the SMU squad. Sophomore Marqus Walker was the latest Mustang to throw in the towel. I am trying to understand why he wanted to give it all up. He must not be thinking of his teammates or his mother when he decided to give it all up. Marqus follows in the footsteps of another as Thursday, walk-on freshmen, Jacob Jones, quit the team to pursue an academic future. Maybe Marqus' thoughts were leading towards school, but it doesn't make alot of since to quit now considering today was the first day that we were going to butt heads. I wish the best for Marqus but that still doesn't help the D-line depth wise. This now complicates a problem. Now we are left with Allen Adami, Randy Denman, and Derron Johnson. I can only say "stick with it" for the rest of them. I am out until fall and the same with Brent Karrington. You all are probably wondering why bean95 is making alot of post lately, but honestly you can only watch so much TV and click the remote while having a broken back. Lets hope no other incidents lead to another missing Defensive tackle.

This is not good. With Walker quitting and Bean and Karrington out til fall Johnson wil have to play DT. I know the coaches wanted Johnson on the OL. I suspect that Dineen and Benson might see some time at DT this spring because of the #'s.

Recruiting some DTs next year has got to be the #1 priority.

Get well Bean and Karrington.

Brandon Bonds and Desmond Jones may well end up in the 2-deep as true Frosh. Hope they are working hard to get in shape to play Division I-A football.

Well Pegasus, I am definently not going to be back until to contact until the fall. I hope to be back on campus mid nextweek. I hope that Dineen comes through for the team, honestly. Karrington, I am not so sure about. I know that he was held out of some of the running drills due to the fact that he might fall and reinjure his shoulder. That can be used as a measuring stick. I believe that he will not be able to return until the fall, as am I. Take care. Do I know you Pegasus??

FYI, I have had back problems for 25 years and let me say that they are no fun. My wife was a pharmaceutical rep for Pfizer and got to know some of the top doctors. She believes that the best are associated with Orthopedic Associates of Dallas. The doctor I used was Robert G. Viere who was also affiliated with the Tom Landry Sports Medicine and Research Center (214) 523-7090. My wife's contacts at Pfizer indicate that Dr. Viere has one of the top reputations in the country as a back doctor and surgeon so you might keep his name in mind if you need additional help. He only will operate if it is really necessary unlike some other doctors who believe that this should be the first solution.

Well, thanks for the heads up. I really hope that everything works out for me and it doesn't give me problems in the future. I really appreciate it.

Why do they quit? Well, there's an old saying: "When the going gets tough,..." (You know how it ends!)

Bean:

I could describe to you "Why People Quit", but I can't use the language on this website. They can't take it. I know Walker, there may be more reasons to this than we know. I personally think that he didn't want to play from the first moment he stepped foot on the Hilltop. He couldn't even make it through summer drills before his freshman season.

It is too bad that kids like that who get scholarships don't have the heart that you do Bean. Keep up your recovery and I hope for the best.

Don't mess around with your back...YOU ONLY GET ONE!

Listen to the doctors that Cash sends you to, they know what they are talking about.

I would have to agree with you about Walker. I could tell he really didnt like football and it seemed that he was doing it for other reasons. Take care

So in the last year, we've lost Warrie Birdwell, Lute Croy, Marcus Walker and (temporarily) Brad Bean.
BUS is right - we need to get at least two, maybe three. Immediately.
