Announcement today apparently. Very likely that Dodge's first game will either be at SMU or the SMU game will be NTSU's first game within a 2 hour drive of Denton. Expect lots of NTSU'ers.

They proved this year they do not need a new coach to beat SMU.

Ouch but true

If this is true then it will haunt us for a while.

Why will it haunt us? b/c we had a chance to hire a high school coach as our head coach and didn't in favor or our existing, average-stat coach? Everybody should grasp that NTSU is a temporary job for Dodge if he is successful. If he isn't, he goes back to being a legend at a high school somewhere. The reasons he goes now: $, $, $, and maybe a little on-the-job training. College and high school are radically different.
And frankly, IMHO, NTSU has shown a pattern of doing this...hiring a stud high school coach...and then succumbing to some idiot alumni who want a higher profile coach. i.e. what happened to Dennis Parker in favor of Matt Simon. And look what happened to Dickey & Flanigan. For the trouble of NTSU playing at the top of its conference, they are off a year or two and give the boot to their coaching staff.
So Coach Dodge should watch his back.

Agreed. I bet after 5 seasons without a winning record there they won't be bringing him back for his 6th. Then again no D1 program in the country would do that right?

Whatever. It was one game. Looking forward to round two in the Safeway parking lot.

Nice straw-man.
I dunno. Virginia Tech did. How'd that work out?
So I guess that means that at least two programs would do that (including SMU). I just hope for SMU's sake, not to mention Coach Bennett's sake, that the outcome is similarly positive. Otherwise the gift that is Season 6 will not be followed by a Season 7 boxed set.

Yes, one game we were supposed to win which costs us a post season berth. Actually we're all looking forward to round two in the Safeway parking lot. Hopefully we'll win this one.
As for this hire haunting SMU, I hope the poster meant that he might have made an interesting candidate for an off. coordinator. Even if Bennett was canned, doubtful Orsini had a high school coach in mind as a replacement.

This is the best NTSU hire since Hayden Fry and spells real trouble for SMU.

The person who should feel threatened is PB. Orsini just wants wants to see what type of HC Dodge is before pulling the trigger and replacing him for PB at the end of next year.

Yes, I'm sure that was Orsini's plan...To have Dodge hired at another College school for evaluation purposes.
...What a stupid notion.

Does this have any impact on the young Mr Dodge and Tre Newton maybe going to NTSU.
THAT would be big.

Oh, I suspect this will open a pipeline direct from Southlake to Denton. To everyone who ever joked that Carroll could compete with SMU, we may just get to see how much of a joke that was in a couple of years.
