Opining OOC (Some SMU, some Arkansas)

We have all given opinions on the 2006 OOC. It was very weak, and personally I favored it for one year in order to get us into a bowl and then move forward. Of course, the NTSU fiasco ended that good thought. I like our OOC next year and it is a balance that I think can serve us well.
I bring this up because Arkansas just announced their 2007 schedule and it looks like they have hit the bottom of the barrell. They have scheduled Troy, NTSU, Florida International, and Chatanooga. By doing this, they have runined any thought of BCS due to SOS and probably knocked McFadden out of the Heisman because he will sit out most of those games to avoid injury after they build up the lead. Of course their conference schedule if tough, but they have to step up if they want the big bucks.
As much as I favored our OOC last year, I do not think we want to get into the habit of scheduling too soft of a schedule that could hurt us in ways such as attendance, and possible bowl selection, and of course the ultimate embarrassment as we incurred this year. We need to be beating teams like TCU, Baylor, TT et al in order to move up the food chain.
Just some thoughts on a rainy morning in Arkansas hoping that some SMU sports team plays a game again some time this year.

They are. That is the gist of my post. UA is playing NTSU,Troy, Florida International, and Chatanooga. It is kind of funny becasue they say they are too good to play Arkie State, but they are playing almost all of the rest of the Sunbelt Conference. Arkansas dropped a series with TCU and will pick one up with UT instead in a couple of years.

Ol' Mack and Delodd probably figured it would be a good way to schedule a vacation to Disney World early in the season.

Arkansas has employed the Broyles scheduling model for decades. Pad the wins with creampuffs to assure a bowl and hope nobody is watching. The Arkies in Arkyland love it. They will gladly and proudly watch the beloved Razorbacks beat Southwest Alaska University for the blind as if a national championship rested on the outcome. And Arkansas will avoid like the plague an OOC opponent that has a chance of killing Ark. On one rare year every decade or so, Arkansas will schedule one decent opponent. I too hope we do not make a habit of employing the Broyles model of coaching. It leaves one feeling as if they didn't bath last Saturday night.

I guess they learned their lesson with SMU...hence they won't schedule us anymore. I loved those games.

If memory serves we won one year 31-9 in Shreveport...That was great going to that game, then getting into a casino underaged and winning $225 on blackjack. What a great time.

I lost $500 in 45 minutes, then went to the game, we won, then back to the casino.
I slowly won back $300-350 and
happily left town at 5am.
